| In the process of learning English,reading ability is one of the most important language skills that English learners must have.Reading ability is also very important in the process of acquiring information and learning various kinds of knowledge and skills.With the deepening of the college entrance examination reform,reading comprehension has become the top priority of college entrance examination.Therefore,in the process of high school English teaching,the teaching of English reading comprehension occupies a considerable proportion.Although reading teaching has always been the focus of high school English teaching,it has not achieved the ideal teaching effect.Teachers do not fully understand the application of students’ reading strategies,and rarely use effective methods to make students use reading strategies to improve their English scores.In this context,the author conducted investigation and research through the methods of questionnaire survey,interview and test,taking 210 senior high school students in Shantou City as the research object,analyzed the status of senior high school students in the application of English reading strategies,and tried to apply English reading strategies to high school English teaching.The research questions are as follows:1.How do high school students use reading strategies?2.What is the correlation between reading strategies and English reading achievement?It can be seen from the results that the overall situation of high school students’ application of English reading strategies is not ideal.Students use metacognitive strategies less frequently than cognitive strategies in reading strategies,while social-emotional strategies are the least used.Secondly,there is a significant positive correlation between reading strategies and English reading performance.In addition,the substrategies of reading strategies(cognitive strategies,metacognitive strategies and social-emotional strategies)are positively correlated with reading achievement.In terms of the use of reading strategies,the following suggestions are put forward: Teachers should introduce reading strategies to students comprehensively and systematically,cultivate students’ ability to apply English reading strategies,and make students gradually develop a good habit of applying English reading strategies;Students should realize the importance of applying reading strategies to improve reading comprehension and learn to apply reading strategies to various kinds of reading.Students’ proficient application of English reading strategies can not only reflect the improvement of reading comprehension ability,but also gradually improve their English scores. |
