Reading is not only one of the basic language skills,but also an important way of language input.Many previous studies have studied affective factors and reading strategies,among which anxiety is an important part of affective factors,and the cultivation of reading strategies is the key to improving English reading ability.However,most researchers at home and abroad have studied reading anxiety and reading strategies among college students,less involving high school students.Most of the previous researches have studied reading anxiety and reading strategies separately,and fewer researches studied the correlation between reading anxiety and reading strategies.Based on this situation,this paper will explore the present situation of English reading anxiety and reading strategies,and the correlation between them.The present study aims to investigate the state of English reading anxiety experienced by senior high school students and the use of reading strategies.119 senior high school students of grade three in Yan' an Senior High School of are chosen as the research subjects.Two questionnaires are employed to collect the data in this study,one is Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Scale(FLRAS)and the other is English Reading Strategies Inventory(ERSS).All the data are analyzed by SPSS20.0 and the following conclusions are drawn.1.High school students have reading anxiety quite commonly.Most of them are in medium anxiety level,and a few are in high anxiety level.There is no significant difference in reading anxiety between boys and girls.2.High school students mostly use the social affective strategies,followed by cognitive strategies,and the use of meta-cognitive strategies is the least.Girls mostly use cognitive strategies and meta-cognitive strategies,while boys use more social affective strategies.3.There is a negative correlation between reading anxiety and reading strategies.This study provides some enlightenment for teachers in reading teaching.Teachers can help students reduce reading anxiety and improve reading performance through effective training.
