A Report On Escort Interpreting In Shandong Museum

Globalization has gotten the countries in the world more closely connected and tourism has become one of the most important ways of cultural exchanges between countries.As tourism develops rapidly,an increasing number of foreigners get interested in Chinese culture,and museums clearly become one of the crucial windows to showcase Chinese culture.In order to solve the problems of language barriers and cultural differences during visiting,the demand for escort interpreters is currently increasing,so escort interpreting in the field of guided tours deserves more attention.This report is based on an escort interpretation practice of the interpreter in Shandong Museum on October 3rd,2022.It has applied some strategies to the interpretation practice,and provided a case analysis for the experience.The language of this task is relatively mechanized and its content involves a lot of expressions with Chinese characteristics,resulting in some difficulties for the interpreter.In the whole process,the interpreter has adopted various strategies to solve the interpreting problems she encountered and summarized the gains and losses from this practice,aiming to provide some references for peer practitioners.Through this interpretation task,the interpreter has honed her skills in interpreting and realized that a qualified interpreter must continuously improve his/her linguistic competence,extra-linguistic competence and transfer competence in order to better perform the role of an interpreter.
