| English reading teaching is an important part of junior high school English teaching.The proportion of reading has been increasing,particularly with the ongoing reform of the high school entrance examination and college entrance examination.At the same time,the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022)places more emphasis on the development of students’ reading comprehension ability,and also states in the general objectives of the English curriculum that “students should be able to set correct English learning goals,maintain interest in learning,and actively participate in language practice activities;pay attention to listening,be willing to communicate and experiment in learning;learn to conduct independent investigations and cooperate with each other”.However,the current status of English reading teaching in junior high schools is not optimistic,there are still many areas that need improvement.Under the influence of traditional exam-oriented education,English reading teaching is dominated by the teacher centered knowledge delivery,and students lose interest in reading.Based on this situation,the author uses the action research method to carry out cooperative learning in English reading teaching to improve students’ low interest in reading and the dull classroom atmosphere,so as to improve students’ English reading ability and cooperative learning ability.The author conducted a four-month research with 54 students,using action research method and research tools such as questionnaires,interviews and tests.The main purpose of this research is to analyze the following questions:(1)How can cooperative learning be implemented in the teaching of English reading in junior high schools?(2)How effective is the implementation of cooperative learning in teaching English reading in junior high schools?This research consists of three steps: the preparation before action,the first round of action research and the second round of action research.After the action research,the author will use SPSS 26 to analyze and summarize the collected data.Action research has found that the following seven steps for cooperative learning in English reading teaching ensure its efficient implementation: group establishment and role assignment,development of cooperative awareness and skills,selection of reading material and clarify of objectives,design of group activities,group discussion,group presentation,summary and evaluation.The effectiveness of cooperative learning in the English reading classroom is as follows: improves students’ reading interest,motivation and ability in English and develops students’ initiative learning ability,improves students’ awareness and skills of cooperation and develops their cooperative learning ability,improves students’ interpersonal skills and promotes their social development.The following aspects should be noted when applying cooperative learning to junior high school English reading teaching: teachers should change their educational concepts,role awareness and improve the basic quality of cooperative learning,scientifically divide cooperative learning groups and clarify students’ roles and responsibilities,improve the concept of evaluation and establish a reasonable and effective cooperative learning evaluation mechanism. |
