With the continuous development of social science and technology,autonomous learning ability is an essential ability and basic literacy for individual to adapt to social development.According to the requirements of English curriculum standards,English teaching is not only that teachers teach students basic English knowledge,but also that teachers guide students to discover language rules and master language knowledge and skills through cooperation.At the same time,teachers should focus on cultivating students’ English autonomous learning ability.This paper aims to explore to cultivate students’ English autonomous learning ability in a rural junior high school by means of group cooperation.This study attempts to explore the following two questions:(1)How can we use the group cooperative learning to cultivate students’ English autonomous learning ability in rural junior high school?(2)What are the effects of group cooperative learning on training students’ English autonomous learning ability in rural junior high school?In this research,36 students in Class One,Grade Seven from a rural middle school in Zhangshu City were selected as the research subjects,and two rounds of action research were carried out by the author who applied group cooperative learning in teaching.At the same time,the author adopted the research methods of questionnaire and interview.The questionnaire was used to investigate students’ English autonomous learning ability from five dimensions: motivation and attitude,planning,self-monitoring,self-evaluation and self-regulation.After implementing two rounds of action research and using SPSS.24 to analyze the questionnaire data,the author finds the results of the research as follows:(1)In terms of the cultivation of students’ English autonomous learning ability based on group cooperation,the author designs the teaching procedure.Before class,the teacher assigns preview tasks and students in group supervise each other to complete the preview tasks.In class,checking students’ preview/review—teaching students by means of group cooperation(assigning cooperative tasks—thinking independently—cooperating in group—presenting the results of cooperation—evaluating)—summarizing.After class,the teacher assigns review tasks and students review independently and supervise each other.(2)Group cooperative learning can improve students’ English autonomous learning ability to a certain extent.After two rounds of action research,students’ autonomous learning ability has improved in following aspects.In the dimension of motivation and attitude,the mean has increased from 2.63 to 3.29.As for planning,the mean has increased from 2.60 to3.53.In terms of self-monitoring,the mean has increased from 2.35 to 3.35.The mean of self-evaluation has increased from 2.79 to 3.58.And the mean has increased from 2.88 to 3.66 in the dimension of self-regulation.This research is expected to provide a certain reference value for the practice of cultivating students’ English autonomous learning ability in English teaching in junior high school. |
