| According to The Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard(2022Edition),The Standard(2022)for short,writing as an expressive skill in language skills complement and reinforce with reading,a comprehension skill.Meanwhile,The Standard(2022)also clarifies that language learning activities should be carried out under certain themes,clarifies the importance of themes,and identifies three major themes: People and Self,People and Society,People and Nature.However,in the real teaching of English writing,there are often the following problems: reading and writing are not closely combined,teachers do not pay enough attention to the discussion of the theme,and writing teaching focuses much more on grammar and vocabulary,thus ignoring the content of the text,which leads to overall low writing ability and writing motivation of junior high school students.Therefore,under the guidance of input hypothesis and output hypothesis,combined with relevant research at home and abroad,this study attempts to apply the Reading-to-Write model based on Theme in junior high school English writing teaching.The purpose of this study is to focus on the theme of People and Society,combine reading and writing,emphasize the knowledge and experience of students under this theme,create learning situations in writing teaching,and design progressive teaching activities to promote reading and writing.So,students can construct writing content,language,and organization in the process of reading and writing,and finally improving their writing ability and writing motivation.This study takes a middle school in the Wuhou District of Chengdu as an example,conducted a three-month teaching experiment.It regarded 80 students in two parallel classes in Grade Two of Junior High School as the research objects.Besides,it specifically analyzes and discusses the impact of the Reading-to-Write model based on Theme on junior high school students’ English writing.Among them,the experimental class adopts the Reading-to-Write model based on Theme,while the control class takes the original single writing teaching model.During the research process,teaching experiments,writing tests,questionnaires,and interviews are used to answer the following questions:(1)What is the effect on junior high school students’ writing ability after applying the Reading-to-Write Model based on Theme?(2)What is the effect on junior high school students’ writing motivation after applying the Reading-to-Write Model based on Theme?The results show that students’ writing has certain improvement after more than three months teaching of the Reading-to-Write Model based on Theme.According to the research data of the teaching experiment,first of all,the Reading-to-Write Model based on Theme has a positive influence on students’ writing ability,which is mainly reflected in the content,language,and organization.Among them,the improvement of content integrity is most obvious,followed by the fluency of language,and finally the consistency of organizational structure.Secondly,the Reading-to-Write Model based on Theme has a positive impact on students’ writing motivation,which is mainly reflected in the sense of writing self-efficacy,intrinsic motivation,and extrinsic motivation.Among them,the improvement of students’ writing self-efficacy and extrinsic motivation is more significant,while intrinsic motivation is slightly improved.Based on the above findings,this study puts forward the following suggestions for teaching and learning English writing.First of all,teachers should efficiently combine reading and writing.When selecting reading materials,teachers should attach importance to the relevance of the topic,diversity of sources,interesting content,authentic language and clear organization.Secondly,teachers should strengthen theme awareness,and select texts based on themes in teaching design and implementation.Specifically,teachers should: select context based on the theme;Create context around the theme;Explore the theme and analyze the text;Deepen the theme and internalize the information;Construct the writing according to the theme;Use various ways to give feedback.Finally,students should cultivate the habit of writing after reading.After reading excellent articles,students should consciously write down their feelings and comments,collect useful words,phrases and sentences,and classify them according to the topic,thus to improve their writing ability. |
