A Report On The Translation Of Global Casebook On Poverty Reduction 2022

Poverty is a chronic affliction of human society and a common challenge faced by the international community.Prior to the COVID 19 pandemic,about 10%of the world’s population lived in extreme poverty,with the most fundamental needs not being satisfied.To address the problem and contribute Chinese ideas,the International Poverty Reduction Center in China published the Global Poverty Reduction Casebook 2021.The overwhelmingly well-received response also heralded the launch of the Global Poverty Reduction Casebook 2022.The author was privileged to be involved in this casebook translation project and shared the process,problems and solutions based on a selection of the translated content,those are Contributing to High-Quality Compulsory Education in Rural Areas—China and UNICEF’s Child-Friendly Schools Program and Second Crop Diversification Project—A Case of High-Value Crops Plantation for Poverty Reduction in Bangladeshi.The casebook is a detailed record of the implementation of poverty reduction projects in various countries,supported by people’s stories and summaries of their experiences.It aims to facilitate the promotion and sharing of successful practices,to document the history of the global fight against poverty,to serve as a tool for pioneering that endeavor in all countries,and to provide innovative ideas.The report rests on the framework of Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation(CEA),and underlines problems encountered in practice and the sharing of solutions.Comprehension issues are addressed through three approaches:enquiry into knowledge,through context and through parallel texts to achieve a thorough grasp of the source text.In terms of expression,the problems can be summarized in three aspects:precise wording,complex sentences and cumbersome language.Since the project is more oriented towards the source text,the author has adopted an omission and simplification strategy for the purpose of translation.
