As a sign of the advanced stage of agricultural production,smart agriculture is playing an increasingly prominent role in the development of the contemporary economy and society.Hence,it is indispensable to understand the relevant knowledge of smart agriculture and the Internet of things(Io T).As an informative book,Io T and Smart Agriculture explores the Internet of Agriculture and key agricultural information technologies,and introduces smart agriculture systematically.Therefore,the first chapter “The Definition of Io T and Smart Agriculture” is selected as the translation material for this translation report.Under the guidance of Reiss’ s text typology,the translator analyzes the problems encountered in the translation process and provides solutions by applying translation tools,references,and parallel texts.This translation practice report mainly includes three parts: translation task description,translation process description,and case analysis.Case analysis describes translation difficulties and provides solutions by applying appropriate methods at the following three levels to ensure the accuracy of information transmission and the acceptability of the translation in accordance with Reiss’ s text typology.At the lexical level,it grapples with the problems confronted in the translation of scientific and technological terms and terms with Chinese characteristics in agricultural science and technology texts;at the syntactic level,the methods for the translation of run-on sentences,long sentences,and subjectless sentences are discussed;at the discourse level,the report probes into how to deal with grammatical cohesion used in the source text and the manifestation of the logical relationship between sentences in translation.Based on the translation practice and report writing,the translator gains the following three aspects of insight regarding the translation of scientific and technological texts in agriculture and Io T fields.Firstly,the translator has a better understanding of the language features of scientific and technological texts in the field of Io T and agriculture.Secondly,in light of Reiss’ s text typology,the translator discusses the solutions to different difficulties,such as specialization of Io T and agriculture texts and cross-language differences at the lexical,syntactical,and discourse levels by using such translation strategies and techniques as literal translation,free translation,division,addition,annotation,combination,and word order adjustment.Lastly,the translator has improved linguistic analysis ability,bilingual conversion ability,and search capability.This report may shed some light on the translation of scientific and technological texts in terms of text type analysis and the selection of translation strategies and techniques. |
