A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of AI And Machine Learning (Excerpts)

With the development of science and technology,Artificial Intelligence(AI)has gradually entered people’s lives and brought great influence to their lives.With the popularization of intelligent life,the demand for AI-related knowledge becomes higher.Many people want to know about AI,so the translation of AI-related books becomes more and more important.The author selects two chapters in the book AI and Machine Learning as materials for English-Chinese translation and then writes this report.To transmit the history,key concepts,and core values of AI and Machine Learning(ML)to readers,the translator adopts corresponding strategies to translate all kinds of different words,sentences and texts under the guidance of Newmark’s Communicative Translation.She also solves some difficulties such as translation of proper nouns,long and difficult sentences and the realization of the coherence of the text.The translator analyzed typical cases from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At the lexical level,there are proper nouns and nominalized phrases in the source text,and the translator adopts the method of literal translation and annotation.At the syntactic level,there are many passive sentences and long and difficult sentences in the source text,and the conversion,addition,and deconstruction methods were mainly adopted to translate them.At the textual level,the translator promotes the logic of the target text by reproducing the source text through lexical cohesion,grammatical cohesion and thematic progression.Through this translation practice,the translator has mastered the translation methods of all kinds of different words,sentences and texts in scientific and technological texts.At the same time,the translator has trained her professional quality as a translator.This translation practice also provides some theoretical and practical references for the translation practice of science and technology text and makes corresponding contributions to the cultivation of translation talents in the field of AI.
