Abstract/Summary:
Literary theorist Joseph Frank introduced the concept of "spatial form" in 1945,which opened up the direction of analyzing literary texts from the perspective of space.In recent years,with the rise of spatial theory in the field of humanities and social sciences,researchers have gradually applied this theoretical research paradigm to the field of film,forming the study of spatial narratives in film texts.The family is the smallest unit of society,and it provides people with living space and spiritual support.For Chinese audiences,who attach great importance to blood relations and family ethics and morality,family ethics drama films have a strong social and cultural connotation.Therefore,exploring this type of text from the perspective of spatial narrative has certain academic value and social significance.In this paper,we interpret the family ethics drama "Breeze in the Rain" from the perspective of spatial narrative in the context of our graduation work,including the following.First is the introduction,which introduces the background and significance of the study,and also provides an overview of spatial narratives,spatial narratives in film and television,and family ethics films.The first chapter provides an overview of the concept and development of family ethics films,theories of spatial narratives,and an introduction to spatial narratives and narrative spaces,setting the basis for the full study.The second chapter analyzes the spatial types of family ethical drama films in terms of both physical space and mental space.In terms of scene selection,it contains private space for releasing self-emotions and public space for constructing conflicts,and physical space serves as a kind of relational bond to construct characters’ relationships;then it elaborates on the excavation of human nature in terms of metaphorical characters’ psychological space and call-to-action value connotation space.Chapter 3 explores the narrative function of family ethics drama films in terms of generating narrative dynamics,implying social metaphors,and driving the plot and shaping characters’ relationships and behaviors.The fourth chapter takes the spatial narrative strategy as the starting point and discusses how space participates in and influences the narrative from three aspects: everyday narrative,rhetorical narrative,spatial compression and the creation of the atmosphere of the "third space".
