A Preliminary Study On The Place Names In Zhengzhou In The Han To Tang Dynasties

Place names are the product of the historical development of human society.Place names are witnesses of history and “living fossils”.Zhengzhou,as one of the sources of Chinese civilization,has a profound history.However,nowadays,the study of place names in Zhengzhou is scattered and one-sided,mostly from the perspective of linguistics,and most of them take the current place names as the research object.Therefore,it is necessary and practical to study the place names of Zhengzhou in the historical materials of the Han to Tang dynasties and dig out the historical connotation behind the place names.However,nowadays,the study of place names in Zhengzhou is scattered and one-sided,and most of them take the current place names as the research object,unable to grasp the development law from the source,let along dig out the historical connotation behind the place names.Based on the geographical records of the official history from the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty,supplemented by other geographical materials,the author systematically and comprehensively collected the place names of Zhengzhou.Guided by the theory of history and geonomenclature,this paper makes a detailed and all-round investigation of the historical place names in Zhengzhou,and discusses the development charastics and historical connotation of the place names in Zhengzhou from the perspective of the nomenclature methods,so as to present the development and evolution of the place names in Zhengzhou over 820 years from the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty.The development of place names in Zhengzhou can be divided into three stages in chronological order: the foundation stage of place names in the Han dynasty,the prosperity stage of place names in the Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern dynasties,and the development and fixation stage of place names in the Sui and Tang dynasties.The development of place-names in Zhengzhou was greatly influenced by the war because of its geographical location,According to the spatial and temporal distribution of military place names,wars were the most frequent in Zhengzhou during the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties.The geographical distribution is mainly concentrated in the west and southwest of Zhengzhou。Places named after natural factors have strong stability,Even if the geographical entity has special changes,or even disappear,the place name can still continue to the later generations。A place name named after an ancient city with a long history and influence,It can be revived even after hundreds of years.We can see the continuity of historical context.
