Linguistic And Cultural Study Of Place Names In Xiangyin County,Hunan Province

Place names as a special vocabulary;It contains rich language materials and cultural connotations.Taking Xiangyin county of hunan province in the 1980 s places as the research object,the inductive analysis of the statistics of 2816 places,the use of linguistics,dialectology and toponymy and relevant knowledge,combined with a systemic analysis of field investigation and statistics,to study the structure characteristics of Xiangyin place names,naming and its cultural connotation behind.This paper is divided into three parts.The introduction part briefly introduces the general situation and historical evolution of Xiangyin County,and discusses and explains the research status of place names and the source of corpus.Chapter 2 makes a linguistic analysis of the place names of Xiangyin County,from three aspects: syllable composition,structural composition and the use of figures of speech.Firstly,the general names are divided into two categories according to their geographical characteristics,namely,natural geographical entities and human geographical entities.The words of proper name are analyzed and explained from the characteristics of part of speech and the way of word formation.Then the combination of common name and proper name in the place names of Xiangyin County is divided into ten types and the special words in the place names are analyzed.Finally,it discusses the naming methods of place names in Xiangyin County from the perspective of figures of speech(mainly involving four types of metaphor,allusion,allusion and avoidance).Chapter 3 discusses the relationship between place names and culture in Xiangyin County from the perspective of culture,mainly from five aspects of natural geographical environment,social and economic activities,history and culture,national psychology and dialect,in order to understand the cultural connotation behind the place names.Based on the investigation and statistics of the place names in xiangyin county,this paper attempts to summarize the linguistic features of the system of the place names in xiangyin county from the perspective of language and culture,in order to provide a reference for linguistics and the study of the place names.
