The fixed aesthetic form of light and color in traditional flower and bird painting originates from unique philosophical theory.It is manifested as the flat light color that emphasizes the unity of nature and man and the image color that pays attention to the mind.With the spread of Western learning to the east,Impressionist paintings were introduced into China by foreign artists and into art colleges,directly or indirectly increasing their influence on Chinese local art.Under the background of the integration of Chinese and Western culture,in order to seek for the reform of art,some painters with pioneering spirit tried to combine impressionist scientific light and color with Chinese figure painting and landscape painting,creating a pioneer of light and color.For the flower and bird painting in difficulties to provide a traditional transformation to contemporary thinking,exploration,integration of new methods.With the integration of light and color in practice,the contemporary flower and bird painting is endowed with a new style and breaks through the visual perception of traditional painting,which is simple,conceptual and flat.Light and color have become important elements in the creation of contemporary flower and bird painting.The subjective multidimensional expression of modeling,space,artistic conception and other aspects has been improved.The application of light and color in objective aspect has led to the expansion of painting materials and techniques of flower and bird painting,so that the inheritance and development of flower and bird painting has formed a multi-artistic aesthetic with national localization style.This paper studies the use of light and color in Chinese and Western paintings through literature review,and seeks for the commonness and difference of light and color in Chinese and western paintings from historical development,painting theories and ideas.In response to the slogan of cultural integration,it summarizes the development value of contemporary flower and bird painters in the application of impressionist light and color in creation under the background of successful practice of previous artists.The significance of this study is illustrated by analyzing and comparing the works of several famous artists.Finally,through the author’s graduation creation "a cluster of flowers","Drunken flower Shade","Spring" three works reflect their own understanding of impressionist light and color and finally complete the creation practice of flower and bird painting.It is hoped that the narrative process of theory and creation can provide some contemporary flower and bird painters and lovers with reference to the fusion of light and color with flower and bird painting in western paintings.
