The growing of Chinese international education is driving the diversification of teaching materials and content.This paper is inspired by the vacancy of minority culture theme content in children’s Chinese graded picture books in domestic and foreign markets,proposing to compile and design graded picture books,aiming to enable foreign learners know more about Chinese culture.Generally,people tend to consider children’s graded books as picture books,mixing up them together.But from the category of books,graded books cover picture books,and picture books can also be graded.But the biggest difference between them lies in "pictures".Therefore,the compilation of children’s graded picture books needs to be matched pictures on the premise of writing educational stories,and keep a balance between pictures and words.Let the picture help the text and the text be reflected in the picture.This picture book starts from five national locations,the Korean ethnic group on the northeast,the the Mongolian ethnic group on the north,Uygur ethnic group on the northwest,the Dai ethnic group on the southwest,and finally Gaoshan ethnic group on the southeast.Picture books will be written for these five ethnic groups.This paper focuses on the design framework and story selection of ethnic picture books.The preset picture books are aligned to overseas children aged 8-12 with pre-intermediate-intermediate Chinese proficiency,aiming to enable overseas second language learners to learn about the culture of Chinese minorities and have a new understanding of Chinese culture through picture books.On the writing style,the picture book is divided into four parts by default: the introduction part,the main content part,the vocabulary table part,and the cultural elements summary part(appendix part).The story selection and arrangement of the content part mainly refers to the domestic ethnic culture books and ethnic culture picture books.The principles of story selection and compilation are scientific,legible,interesting,practical and typical,and contemporary.The standard of vocabulary grading of picture books refers to the popular graded reading "Chinese Little Bookshelf".Finally,the graded picture books will be put into local primary and secondary schools in Thailand for overseas children to learn and collect feedback and opinions.From the problems found in the process of compilation,this paper proposes the suggestion to make more exchange,learning and dissemination of various ethnic cultures,and gets positive feedback after the trial reading of picture books.Taking this as an example,in the future compilation of Chinese graded books,the author thinks that the excellent ethnic minority cultures can be selected as contents for dissemination.With these efforts,it can comprehensively publicize the Chinese culture,and offer variety of contents to learners for choices.
