China’s ethnic minority cultural resources are rich and distinctive,making them an important component of China’s excellent culture.Ethnic culture is the root of an ethnic group,and the inheritance and promotion of ethnic culture are crucial for telling Chinese stories well and building cultural confidence.As an important children’s book,picture books are an art form that combines pictures and text,and an excellent carrier for cultural enlightenment for children.They play an important role in the development of children’s thinking,language,aesthetics,and emotions.Today,inheriting the excellent traditional Chinese culture has become a social consensus.Telling ethnic minority stories and disseminating ethnic culture in the form of picture books can help children understand relevant knowledge,enhance their cultural identity in silence,establish correct values,guide children with excellent ethnic culture,and help them grow and develop.In order to express a more specific and vivid ethnic culture,the research focus of this topic is to explore the artistic expression of ethnic characteristics in picture books.The design practice focuses on the art of Youling Paiyao costumes among the Yao ethnic group in Guangdong Province.Children’s picture books are used as carriers to showcase the unique ethnic costumes and customs of Youling Paiyao,attempting to provide a new path for the dissemination of ethnic minority culture."The Five Colors of Good Clothes" is a children’s story picture book created on the basis of previous theoretical research,with the theme of Youling Paiyao clothing culture.The picture book tells the story of a series of events that occurred between the Paiyao girl "Xiao Douer " and the grandmother from the first perspective of the little protagonist,focusing on the Yao clothing culture.It showcases the confusion that " Xiao Douer " and its representative young generation exhibit when facing the " unique " Yao clothing culture Courage and growth.In the process of design practice,the author designs and applies visual languages such as ethnic symbols,shapes,and colors that appear,and explores aspects such as ethnic expression in picture books.
