With the increasing world-wide popularity of “Chinese fever”,more and more people want to learn Chinese to understand China’s economy,society,culture and other fields.Vietnamese students are the same.In the process of learning the language,mastering its characters is an indispensable task,as the Chinese characters are the essence of the Chinese language.However,due to the outbreak of the pandemic,teachers and students have no other choice than online teaching and learning methods with the aim of not interrupting learning activities.During the pandemic period,Vietnamese students had to learn Chinese characters through various online learning channels.In this process,they must face many problems and difficulties,and these problems directly affect students’ interest in learning Chinese characters and their Chinese proficiency.This research takes Vietnamese students as the object of investigation and uses questionnaires to understand the importance of Chinese characters to Vietnamese students and their situation and attitude towards online Chinese learning,to find and analyze the problems that Vietnamese students often encounter in the process of online Chinese character learning.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,including the reason for choosing the topic,literature review,research purpose and significance,research content and method.The second part is about the definition of Chinese character online learning,including the meaning of “online Chinese character learning”,the advantages of online Chinese character learning,the difference between online and offline Chinese character learning,and the conditions for online learning.The third part is the questionnaire design of Vietnamese students’ online learning of elementary Chinese-level students.The fourth part is the research results of online learning of Chinese characters for Vietnamese students with elementary Chinese proficiency.The fifth part is the analysis of common problems in online learning of Chinese characters by Vietnamese students with elementary Chinese proficiency.The last part is the strategies for online learning of Chinese characters for Vietnamese students with elementary Chinese proficiency.The purpose of this research is to investigate,analyze and summarize the current situation,existing problems and difficulties encountered in the online learning of Chinese characters for Vietnamese students,and finally provide some suitable learning methods for Vietnamese students.The author hopes that Vietnamese teachers can learn from this paper.Understanding the problems existing in online learning of Chinese characters for Vietnamese students to find effective online teaching strategies.
