With the revitalization of national music, cultural confidence has made the guqin shine again, and the art of qin music is gradually accepted and learned by the public, and traditional culture has been injected with new vitality. The guqin is a very representative instrument in China, and fewer studies have been done on the early qin due to the absence of a score, differences in form and the lack of documentation. In this paper,we speculate on the musical performance of the early zither and improve our knowledge of the form of the early zither from experiments in instrument reproduction. The first part is a compilation of archaeological data on the currently excavated lyres, providing a background on the users and instrument combinations. The second part is devoted to clarifying the relationship between the string, bell, and lyre rhythms, which is intended to clarify the possible rhythms, scales, and tuning of the seven-stringed lyre in the Upper Classic. The third part is to analyze the structure of the scale of the sound column of Chu bells and speculate on the possibility of using the emblematic law tuning method on the early seven-stringed lyre. The instrument replication study of the seven-stringed lyre from Mawangdui Tomb No.3 was conducted to test the correctness of the above conclusions and to gain a deeper sense of the form and structure of the upper ancient lyre in the process of making. The fourth part is to view the connotation of the Chu-style zither from the aspect of cultural history. The study concludes that the early excavated lyre was the predecessor of the present ancient lyre, and that the string rhythm and bell rhythm of the preQin period were intrinsically related to the pure rhythm of the ancient lyre.Combined with the signs of wear on the surface of the seven-stringed lyre of Tomb Mawangdui III,it is likely that the early lyre used the pure rhythm tuning method. The decorative lines on the body of the early seven-stringed lyre may also have served the function of a concealed emblem..
