Historical and cultural district has gradually become an important carrier of urban memories and an ideal space for urban tourism and leisure activities,due to its unique landscape features and profound cultural heritages.With the development of tourism in historical and cultural district,commercialization is inevitable.While tourism commercialization brings economic benefits,it also changes the placeness of district.This study takes Nanjing Confucius Temple historical and cultural district as an example.Based on literature research,field investigation and questionnaire survey,the thesis uses spatial analysis,mean analysis,factor analysis and structural equation model to explore the core issues include spatial characteristics,recreationists-sense of place,how tourism commercialization affects the sense of place,and place construction process of historical and cultural district under the background of tourism commercialization.This study contains three aspects as follows:(1)The first part introduces research background,research design and related research progress,including the first and second chapters.This part elaborates the background,theoretical and practical significance,the main research content,methods,technical routes and the case of this study.Then organizes and reviews relevant concepts and research progress from three aspects: historical and cultural district,tourism commercialization and place constructing;(2)The second part is the main body of study,including chapters 3-5.Chapter Three analyzes the physical spatial characteristics of the Confucius Temple Historical and Cultural District,from the perspectives of cultural space,recreational space and commercial space.Chapter Four analyzes the impact mechanism of tourism commercialization on recreationists-sense of place.The study divides the recreationists-sense of place into place perceived value,place attachment,place satisfaction and behavioral intention,and then examines its influence path through structural equation model.Chapter Five describes the place construction process of historical and cultural district under the background of tourism commercialization and puts forward practical revelations;(3)The third part(Chapter 6)contains the main conclusions,innovations,research limitations and prospects of this study.The main conclusions of this thesis are as follows:(1)Cultural space,recreational space and commercial space of historical and cultural district are the physical basis of its place construction under the background of tourism commercialization.For cultural space,traditional culture is being protected and revived,while modern culture presents diversification in Confucius Temple;For recreational space,tourism attractions mainly include commercial leisure,traditional architecture and historical display.The roads and streets can be divided into three types: enclosed roads,tourist streets and residential streets.The nodes include four types,namely entrance nodes,squares,bridges and road-connection nodes,which play important roles in displaying the image of district;For commercial space,it is related to Chinese time-honored business,business formats and their spatial distribution,the proportion of various business formats in the district is as follows: tourism shopping> catering> residential business> accommodation> leisure and entertainment> tourism services.There are obvious differences in the spatial distribution of each types of business format.(2)Tourism commercialization affects the formation of recreationists-sense of place in historical and cultural district.The results of SEM show that,among the historical and cultural district recreationists’ perceived values of place,traditional culture,emotional value,and commercial function can significantly affect the generation of their behavioral intention through the intermediary role of place attachment and satisfaction.Modern innovation and emotional value can significantly affect behavioral intention through satisfaction.Compared with place attachment,satisfaction has a stronger explanation for behavioral intention.While traditional culture can directly and significantly affect behavioral intention,which shows that for recreationists in historical and cultural district,traditional culture is a kind of unique attraction and plays an important role on their choose.(3)The cultural space,recreational space and commercial space are the main objects of place perception of recreationists,while their sense of place is the important basis for the place construction of historical and cultural district.Under the background of tourism commercialization,historical and cultural district has been constantly constructed.The development of tourism commercialization has changed the original state of historical and cultural district,transformed the characteristics of cultural space,recreational space and commercial space,and promoted the active integration of traditional culture and modern culture.Reception facilities,leisure facilities,and commercial services that mainly serve recreationists have emerged.As the main subject of place perception and the dominant force of place construction,recreationists drive the change of place form,function and connotation.Their needs to experience local culture and modern leisure and sense of place affect the process of place construction.(4)In the context of tourism commercialization,historical and cultural district can achieve the goal of sustainable development through the following ways: Pay attention to traditional cultural values,and cultivate place attachment of recreationists;Use modern innovation to meet the experience needs of recreationists;Strengthen the emotional value of recreationists,and increase place satisfaction;Improve business service levels,and promote the grade of business formats.
