Research On The Cultural Identity Construction Of Chinese-french Writers

The drifting Chinese-born French writers,though recognized by the host country,have their awareness of self-identity crisis deep down.Due to their identity as wanders living abroad while caring for the homeland,they boast the unique cross-cultural background and broad cultural horizons.The construction of their cultural identity has become a matter of concern as Chinese and Western cultures are increasingly integrated.Francois Cheng and Shan Sa,as outstanding writers in the contemporary literary community of Chinese French showed the changes of life and mentality of Chinese-French writers through the art form of novels.Based on the personal experiences and novels of Francois Cheng and Shan Sa,this paper,combined with Stuart Hall’s theory of cultural identity,analyzes how they mastered the French language as the "key" of identity construction and thus obtained the right of discourse through writing to achieve discourse breakthrough after they experienced the "aphasia" of language and culture.This paper aims to analyze their strategies of identity construction.They draw on the nutrients of Chinese culture in the continuation of the “Chinese Context”,show their homesickness in a historical perspective,and construct their own culture identity in the nurture of traditional Chinese elements.In their writing process of constructing identity,the writers obviously bear marks of their personal experience.Francois Cheng also includes the description of group experiences in the process of self-identity construction.When dealing with a heavy historical disaster,he starts from the actual experience of different groups and shows the life and mental journey of the wandering generation.The works of Shan Sa not only relfect part of what she has gone through,but also condense a heavy historical concer constructing her own cultural identity in the individual interpretation of Chinese stories.From Francois Cheng to Shan Sa,we can get a glimpse into the dynamic mobility of the cultural identity construction of Chinese-born French writers.They conduct a "dialogue" across different cultures,perfectly blend Chinese and Western cultures and construct their cultural identity in the fusion of cultures through re-exploring the life and humanity.Chinese-born French writers are devoted to promoting Sino-French cultural exchanges.They have crossed the national and cultural boundaries on the basis of absorbing the essence of the two cultures and risen to the spiritual exploration of pursuing the common destiny of mankind in the fusion of cultures,boasting universal value to the humanities in the global context.
