| As a bridge connecting domestic and foreign information,news translation has a unique status in the international dissemination of information and plays an essential role in the communication of different cultures.The audiences with different languages have a channel to gain the international news and relevant information further.Based on practical cases,this thesis uses theoretical tools and the rhetorical situation theory to deal with the difficulties of translation in news titles,vocabulary and sentences of the source texts of COVID-19 series reports in The New York Times.Combined with the rhetorical situation theory,this thesis also endeavors to find methods to solve the translation difficulties and some tendentious and discriminatory contents or inaccurate reports encountered in the news.This thesis summarizes the translation methods of headline,for example,using the amplification method for the information expansion.It also explores the translation skills of typical midget words and buzzwords.As for midget words,the translator must grasp the specific meanings;in terms of vogue words,the translator needs to consult various resources to get an exactly result.This thesis also analyzes the internal macro structure and cross-text context of English news,proposing that the translator should follow the inverted pyramid structure of the primary text and focus on the connection between various individual texts of the series of reports.Finally,the author uses the rhetorical situation theory to analyze the difficulties of news trans-editing,and then proposes that the translator should have a clear position,make the language close to the audience,and overcome the barriers of translation.This thesis aims to bring forth useful methods when discussing the difficulties and problems in news translation by combining specific cases,in the hope of providing reference for news translators. |
