The Research Of The Process And Influence Of The Cross-Strait Sports Exchange

The sports exchange is an important part of Cross-Strait exchanges.As the"pioneer" of Cross-Strait exchanges,Sports exchange played an important role in promoting the development of Cross-Strait relations.The sports exchange broke the ice of Cross-Strait exchanges and prompted the Mainland and Taiwan to sign the first cooperation agreement,and it also has great influences on the Cross-Strait politics,economics,society and so on.Based on a large number of Chinese archives,such as China Sports Yearbook written by the General Administration of Sport of China and researches written by"Sports Affairs Council(sports administration,Ministry of Education)”of Taiwan,this thesis adopts literature analysis and interdisciplinary studies,and shows the process and characteristics of Cross-Strait sports exchange,analyses the main factors affecting the Cross-Strait sports exchange,comments on the functions and impacts of Cross-Strait sports exchange on Taiwan politics,society,economics and Cross-Strait relations.It also gives suggestions on the future Cross-Strait sports exchange,according to the new situation in Cross-Strait relations after Tsai Ying-Wen came to power in 2016.In the introduction,I define "Cross-Strait sports exchange" and summarize previous studies written by Cross-Strait scholars.There are few academic researches on it,and most of them just briefly reviewed the process of Cross-Strait sports exchange without focusing on the influencial factors of Cross-Strait sports exchange and it’s functions.The first part of the thesis reviews the course of Cross-Strait sports exchange before 1979.Cross-Strait athletes have competed together in modern history.After the two sides of Taiwan Strait resorted to confrontation in 1949,the exchanges between Mainland and Taiwan paused.The sports organizations of both sides of the Taiwan Strait are in a state of opposition,which is particularly prominent in international sports organizations and international competitions.The second part divides the progress of the Cross-Strait sports exchange into five periods according to different characteristics:indirect exchange period(1979-1988),one-way direct exchange period(1989-1992),two-way slow exchange period(1993-2000),bidirectional rapid exchange(2001-2007)and multi-sided exchange period(2008-2016),followed by summaries of the historical background,typical examples and features of each period.The third part analyzes the factors affecting Cross-Strait sports exchange.The Cross-Strait sports exchange is influenced by the Cross-Strait relations,the policies and the sports system of Mainland and Taiwan and the impacts of "Olympic model".Due to these factors,the Cross-Strait sports exchange experienced too much suffering.The fourth part summarizes the impacts of Cross-Strait sports exchange on Taiwan’s politics,society,economics and the Cross-Strait relations.Cross-Strait sports exchange can influence Taiwan’s public opinion,and the "Olympic model" provides a reference for Mainland and Taiwan to participate in international activities together under the "one-China principle".Through the cooperation of the sports industry,Mainland and Taiwan can promote their economic and trade exchanges.The Cross-Strait sports exchange also has an impact on Cross-Strait identity.On the one hand,the international sports activities like Beijing Olympic Games can enhance Cross-Straits national emotion.On the other hand,the Cross-Strait sports competition may nurture nationalist and "resistance identity",and have negative effect on the construction of Cross-Strait identity.Finally,after Tsai Ying-Wen came to power in 2016,the Cross-Strait sports exchange was faced with two new changes:first,people who seek "Taiwan independence" have used sports events to expand their coverage;second,the media of Mainland have changed “中华台北”to“中国台北”in Chinese.Facing the new situation,the Mainland should continue to promote Cross-Strait sports exchange.First of all,under the framework of the "Olympic model",the Mainland should expand the consensus between Cross-strait by broadening the fields of Cross-Strait sports exchange,and improve the exchange mechanism of three ranks to maintain the current situation.Secondly,the Mainland should prevent the forces of "Taiwan independence" interrupting the Cross-Strait sports exchange by improving systemic construction.Finally,the Mainland should focus on strengthening mass sports exchange,let sports build an bridge cross the Taiwan Strait.
