Objective: To understand the demand for long-term care among the elderly with chronic diseases in Hohhot,to investigate the factors influencing the demand for long-term care among the elderly, and to provide a reference basis for meeting the demand for long-term care among the elderly with chronic diseases in Hohhot, improving the long-term care service system in Hohhot, and accelerating the development of healthy aging in Hohhot. Methods: The study was a cross-sectional study, and a questionnaire survey was conducted in 2022 using equal proportional sampling of elderly people aged 60 years and above in Hohhot city. The questionnaire included three aspects: basic personal and family information, personal health and living situation, and long-term care-related needs, and the independent variables were organized into propensity factors, enabling factors, and need factors according to Anderson’s model.SPSS 25.0 was used for statistical analysis of the data, and the main statistical methods used included descriptive statistics,chi-square test and binary logistic regression analysis. Results: 1.1411 questionnaires were distributed and returned in this research study, and the questionnaires of the elderly who did not suffer from chronic diseases and invalid questionnaires with incomplete, unrealistic,or inconsistent answers were deleted.Finally,1014 valid questionnaires of elderly patients with chronic diseases were screened.Among them, there were 783(77.22%)elderly with one chronic disease and 231(22.78%)elderly with chronic disease co-morbidity;640(63.12%)elderly with demand for long-term care and 374(36.88%)elderly with no demand. There were 406 people(40.04%)whose demanded care mode was formal care, and 608 people(59.96%)whose demanded care mode was informal care.2.The effects of propensity factors(age, household registration, education level, and marital status),enabling factors(residence status and satisfaction with old age),and need factors(ability to perform activities of daily living and depression)were statistically significant(P<0.05)in the elderly’s need for long-term care.3.The effects of propensity factors(age and education),enabling factors(residence status and satisfaction with old age),and demand factors(ability to perform activities of daily living)were statistically significant(P<0.05)in the demand for formal care and informal care among older adults. Conclusions: 1.The demand for long-term care is higher among the elderly with chronic diseases in Hohhot.Among the propensity factors, the elderly with high age, high education level, urban household registration and no spouse are more in need of long-term care.Among the enabling factors, older adults with higher average monthly income and dissatisfaction with their current retirement were more in need of long-term care.Among the need factors, older adults with reduced Activity of Daily Living(ADL)and significant impairments had a greater need for long-term care.2.The demand for informal care was higher among older people with chronic diseases in Hohhot.Among the propensity factors, the demand for formal care was higher among older people with high age and education;among the enabling factors, the demand for formal care was higher among older people who did not live with their spouses or children and those who were dissatisfied with their current elderly care;among the demand factors, the demand for formal care was higher among older people with declining ADL and significant impairment.3.Hohhot should continue to improve the senior care service system, increase the development of long-term care to meet the demand of the elderly for long-term care services, and according to the factors influencing the demand for long-term care, give priority to the elderly with high demand for long-term care given the limited senior care resources. In terms of care models, informal care should be vigorously developed and improved, while the development of formal care should be continuously promoted.
