Politicization Of Global Public Health Governance

Global public health governance refers to the joint design and implementation of health policies by the international community in the face of transnational public health threats so as to promote human health and safety.Due to the spread of infectious diseases around the world,and the security of all countries has been seriously threatened.Global public health has therefore turned out to be a major security issue that the mankind must pay attention to.However,this crucial issue has been distorted,and both the issue and its resolve have been seriously politicized.Politicization of public health governance signifies that state actors,mainly big powers,bring public health,a serious,scientific and neutral issue,into the political field,they interprets it from the perspective of their own national interests to form a discourse system that is beneficial to themselves,and tackle them in a selfish and distorted way,the purpose of which is to achieve its own political purposes or strategic goals.Taking the COVID-19 epidemic as an example,the United States and other western countries politicized the origin of the COVID-19,the R&D,the production and the distribution of vaccines of COVID-19 and the relationship between China and the World Health Organization,and adopted an unscientific and irrational way to deal with it.As a result,this global public health problem has not been effectively controlled for a long time.In this problem,the United States is the major culprit.The root reason for this phenomenon is the change of the international configuration,especially the change in power between China and the United States is becoming more and more unfavorable to the United States.In order to maintain its hegemony,the United States intends to use COVID-19 as the means to defame and cnontain China so as to consolidate its alliance system and maintain its advantage over China.The behavior of the United States has damaged the relations between major powers,hindered international cooperation,and made it more difficult for the international community to solve global public health problems.The research hereby finds that the politicization of global public health governance is related to the anarchic nature of the international community.The lack of an higher authority in the international community makes every country practice egoism when pursuing their interests.At the same time,the main manipulators politicizing public health issues are hegemons,when its global superemacy is threatened,they tends to resort to all means to contain potential rivals in order to maintain their advantage of power over the challenger.In addition,in the field of international politics,politicization is actually a question of the right of discourse,which is based on national strength.The public health issue is a threat to the mankind,and it has no national boundaries,which requires the full cooperation of the international community.In order to safegurad the international security,the international community should construct the consensus of the community of common health for mankind,support the central role of the United Nations in global public health governance,build a global public health governance mechanism involving all the shareholders,and improve the relations between major country and banlance the interests of all the countries.Only in this way,can human beings be longing for and enjoy health as well as safety.
