| Objective: By investigating the occurrence of college freshmen and the associated activities of daily living in two universities in Shenyang, the current status and associated risk factors of college freshmen in colleges at the present stage of Shenyang City are understood, which will provide a reference basis for the future adoption of targeted preventive measures.Method: This study is a cross-sectional study.According to the relevant literature,a questionnaire was produced, and a convenience sampling method was used to select all schoolstudents from the 2 colleges in Shenyang City as the research object in September 2019.In this study, the questionnaire star style research object was used to conduct a questionnaire survey on self rating scales of depression online and on activities of daily living.Focused on investigating the related influencing factors of depression occurrence in college students among environmental factors. The questionnaire data from our university were using t-tests for continuous variables and percentages and frequencies for categorical variables, while chi square tests were used to compare the demographic characteristics of the two groups and descriptive statistics between individual study factors. For the possible influencing factors among colleges and colleges students, all the univariate logistic regression analysis was performed to judge whether the included study factors were statistically different, then the selected study factors with statistical significance were included in the multivariate logistic regression model analysis, and finally the independent influencing factors for the occurrence of depression among colleges and colleges were screened out. Results: 1.A total of 1275 freshmen in Colleges and universities were included in this study, with an age of 18.3 ± 0.9 years and a range of 16-22 years, including 8(0.6%)aged 16 years,160(12.5%)aged 17 years,691(54.2%)aged 18 years,270(21.2%)aged 19 years,90(7.1%)aged 20 years,48(3.8%)aged 21 years and 8(0.6%)aged 22 years, with the age distribution mainly at 18-19 years.Looking at gender, female students accounted for a larger proportion,853 cases(66.9%),while male students accounted for only 422 cases(33.1%).The location of Freshmen ’family in colleges was mainly distributed in cities with a predominance of 76.5% compared to23.5% in rural areas.2.Detection of depression among college freshmen: a total of 1275 college freshmen were included in this study, and a total of 466 depressed students were detected, representing a detection rate of 36.5%.Of these,353(27.6%)were detected with mild depression,102(8%)with moderate depression, and 11(0.9%)with severe depression. The detection rates of minor to moderate major depression among the freshmen in Liaoning University were: 27.0%,9.4% and 8.0%,respectively,and the detection rates of minor to major depression among the freshmen in China Medical University were: 28.7%,6.0% and 1.0%,respectively.The comparison of depression detection between the two colleges did not show statistical difference(P > 0.05).3.Comparison of the basic demographic characteristics of the study subjects revealed that: the two groups were statistically different in terms of age, region of residence, parental parental education, whether they were the only children, whether they regularly consumed breakfast, sleep quality, whether they regularly participated in exercise, time spent outdoors each day, cell phone use and time spent online each day and whether they had frequent cold(P < 0.05).4.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that regular breakfast(OR =0.64,95% CI: 0.46-0.90),higher father’s education(OR = 0.83,95% CI: 0.71-0.98),good sleep quality(OR = 0.34,95% CI: 0.27-0.44)and regular participation in physical activity(OR = 0.68,95% CI: 0.51-0.93)were protective factors for depression among freshmen in Colleges and universities;Poor sleep quality(OR = 3.34,95% CI:1.30-8.55)was a risk factor for depression among college freshmen.5.Interaction analysis showed an interaction between frequent breakfast meals and higher paternal education(OR = 0.78,95% CI 0.72-0.84);There was an interaction between frequent breakfast and good sleep quality(OR = 0.31,95% CI0.25-0.40);There was an interaction between having breakfast regularly and regular physical activity(OR = 0.52,95% CI 0.39-0.69);There was an interaction between higher paternal education and better sleep quality(OR = 0.68,95% CI 0.63-0.74);There was an interaction between higher paternal educational level and regular physical activity(OR = 0.79,95% CI 0.73-0.87);There was an interaction between good sleep quality and regular participation in physical activity survival(OR = 0.41,95% CI 0.29-0.56).Conclusion: 1.A total of 1275 freshmen from colleges and universities were included in this study, and a total of 466 depressed students were detected, yielding a detection rate of 36.5%.Among them, mild depression was detected in 27.6%,moderate depression in 8%,and severe depression in 0.9%.2.Regular breakfast, higher educational level of the father, good sleep quality and regular participation in physical activity were protective factors for the development of de novo depression in Colleges and universities;Poor sleep quality is a risk factor for depression among college freshmen.3.There was an interaction between lifestyle factors on College de novo depression. |
