Objective: Understanding the current state of benefit discovery, symptom burden, and quality of life for radiation treatment patients who have neck and head cancer, trying to investigate the variables influencing benefit discovery and quality of life for these patients, and analyzing the connections between benefit discovery, symptom burden, and quality of life, completely comprehend the physical and psychological state that head and neck cancer patients are experiencing while undergoing radiotherapy, and offer therapeutic advice for enhancing quality of life and fostering rehabilitation. An easy draw was used to conduct the investigation. The study was conducted by taking a convenience draw. Methods: In this study,230 patients who underwent radiotherapy for head and neck cancer from October 2021 to October 2022 in the radiotherapy department of a tertiary care oncology hospital in Liaoning Province and met the criteria for nadir were selected as the study population using convenience sampling. The Benefit Finding Scale(BFS),the M.D.Anderson Symptom Inventory-Head& Neck(MDASI-H&N),the Mos item short form health survey(SF-36),and the M.D.Anderson Symptom Inventory-Head&Neck(MDASI-H&N)were selected.Form health surveys(SF-36)and self-designed general information questionnaires were used for data survey and data collection. The data processing program utilized was SPSS 26.0,and the statistical techniques included descriptive analysis, cluster analysis,Mann-Whitney U test,Kruskal-Wallis H test, multiple stepwise regression analysis,Spearman correlation analysis, stratified regression analysis, and Bootstrap analysis, and a two-sided test of P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: 1.The score of benefit finding in patients with head and neck cancer radiotherapy was in the lower middle level, with a total score of 56.07 ± 12.76 and an average score of 2.55 ± 0.58.Univariate analysis showed that marital status, education level, place of residence, gender, age, occupation, living status, economic level and medical insurance type may be the influencing factors of benefit finding level.Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that age, economic level, education level and symptom burden were important influencing factors of benefit finding, explaining 34.8 % of the variation of benefit finding level.2.The results of cluster analysis showed that about 58.7%of head and neck cancer radiotherapy patients were experiencing severe symptom burden during radiotherapy.3.The mean quality of life score of head and neck cancer radiotherapy patients was 88.30±14.92,which was at an intermediate level.Univariate analysis showed that gender, age, marital status, education level, residence, occupational status, economic level, type of health insurance, site of head and neck cancer and number of radiotherapy sessions may be influential factors in the quality of life of patients undergoing radiotherapy for head and neck cancer.Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that benefit finding, symptom burden, economic level, number of radiotherapy sessions, education level, and type of health insurance were significant independent influences on quality of life, explaining 60.6%of the variance in quality of life.4.There was a correlation between benefit finding, symptom burden, and quality of life in patients treated with radiotherapy for head and neck cancer, and benefit finding was significantly and positively correlated with quality of life, while symptom burden was negatively correlated with benefit finding and quality of life, respectively.Benefit discovery and quality of life were negatively correlated, and benefit discovery could be used as a partial mediating variable to influence the relationship between symptom burden and quality of life in patients treated with radiotherapy for head and neck cancer. Conclusions: 1.Head and neck cancer radiotherapy patients suffered from multiple symptoms during radiotherapy and had a high symptom burden, with a moderate level of benefit finding and a low quality of life.2.The factors influencing the benefit finding level of head and neck cancer radiotherapy patients were: age, education level, economic level and symptom burden, among which age was the most predictive of benefit finding level.3.Therefore,improving the benefit discovery level of patients with head and neck cancer radiotherapy can reduce their perceived level of symptom burden and thus improve their quality of life.
