Objective: To observe the extent to which acupuncture combined with sertraline in the treatment of patients with persistent postural-perceptual dizziness(PPPD)relieves patients’ symptoms of vertigo, anxiety, depression and sleep disturbance,so as to seek effective TCM treatment options for PPPD.Methods: 60 patients with persistent posture-perceptual dizziness were screened according to the standard of inclusion and exclusion criteria. The patients were randomly divided into control group and test group with 30 patients in each group by using the method of generating a random number table with SPSS software. The control group was treated with sertraline, while the test group was treated with acupuncture combined with sertraline. The acupuncture frequency was once a day,six days a week, and the duration of treatment was 8 weeks. The scores of DHI,HAMA,HAMD and PSQI before and after treatment were used as the observation indicators, the clinical efficacy standard was determined according to the score reducing rate of DHI.Result:1.Before treatment, there was no statistical difference in the fundamental data between the two groups, which was comparable(P>0.05);2.Significant improvement in the four scales of DHI,HAMA,HAMD and PSQI scores in both the test and control groups(P<0.01);3.A between-group comparison of the four scale results between the test and control groups after treatment showed statistically significant differences in DHI and HAMA(P<0.05)and even more statistically significant differences in HAMD and PSQI(P<0.01);4.The clinical efficacy evaluation showed that the total effective rate of the test group was 88.89%,higher than 76.00% of the total effective rate of the control group, with significant statistical difference(P<0.01);5.Safety assessment: no serious adverse drug reactions and no adverse acupuncture events in either group throughout the course of treatment. The incidence of adverse drug reactions was lower in the test group at 7.4% than in the control group at 16%.Conclusion:1.Acupuncture combined with sertraline and sertraline can improve the degree of vertigo, anxiety and depression and sleep quality of PPPD patients;2.Acupuncture combined with sertraline is better than sertraline in improving PPPD patients’ vertigo and anxiety;3.Acupuncture combined with sertraline is significantly better than sertraline in improving PPPD patients’ depression and sleep quality;4.Acupuncture combined with sertraline can reduce the incidence of adverse drug reactions in PPPD patients compared with sertraline treatment.
