Object: To investigate the relationship between the time of stent tube retention and complications after urological stone surgery, and analyze the reasonable time of ureteral stent tube retention. Methods: Patients with indwelling ureteral stent tubes after urinary calculi surgery from June 2021 to March 2023 in the Department of Urology,People’s Hospital of Tibet Autonomous Region were selected.Patients were randomized to the short-term group(2 weeks of postoperative stent placement)and the long-term group(4 weeks of postoperative stent placement)according to the duration of postoperative stent placement.Patients with indwelling ureteral stents were investigated for extubation at the time of extubation by using the ureteral stent symptom questionnaire(USSQ),and general patient data, clinical data, and follow-up data were collected. To compare the differences between the two groups in terms of stone removal rate,USSQ score and complications during placement. Results: Eleven patients were lost after surgery,13 patients were excluded due to invalid questionnaires, and 143 valid questionnaires were finally collected.Among them,62 patients had their double J-tube removed 2 weeks after surgery and 81 patients had their double J-tube removed 4 weeks after surgery. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of male to female ratio, age,BMI,surgical procedure, operation time, intraoperative bleeding, size of stones, stent tube displacement, urinary tract infection, work performance, bed rest time, and sexual life(P > 0.05).The 2-week group had a lower incidence of urinary tract symptoms, painful conditions, general health, other additional problems, and stone formation on the double-J tube appendage in the Ureteral Stent Symptom Questionnaire(USSQ)score than the 4-week group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05).Conclusion: Ureteral stent tubes left in place for 2 weeks after urological stone surgery can effectively reduce the occurrence of complications such as lower urinary tract symptoms, somatic pain conditions, and stone formation in the appendage of double J canal, and improve the quality of life of patients, and have no significant effect on stone removal rate, which is more valuable for clinical application.
