Effects Of Modified Problem-solving Therapy On Depression Of The Elderly In Nursing Homes | | Posted on:2023-08-22 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:X Q Wu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2544307070491484 | Subject:Nursing | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Objective:To explore the effect of modified problem-solving therapy in improving depression symptoms of the elderly in nursing homes.Methods:During the period from July 2021 to December 2021,the elderly who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were recruited through two nursing homes in Changsha,using the General Information Questionnaire,the Brief Version of the Geriatric Depression Scale,the Brief Coping Style Scale,and the General Self-Efficacy Scale to complete the baseline survey.Participants were assigned to the control and the intervention groups.The control group received usual care and the intervention group received modified problem-solving therapy for a total of 8 weeks and were evaluated again at the end of the intervention and 3-months after the intervention.The baseline data of the two groups were compared by independent samples t-test and chi-square test,and the changes in multiple time points of the two groups were compared using repeated measures ANOVA and independent samples t-test to compare changes in the two groups at the same time point with a test level of α=0.05.Results:(1)Before the experiment,30 older adults were respectively included in the two groups,and 3 patients were lost to follow-up by the end of the intervention,with a final total sample size of 57 cases,including 29 cases in the intervention group and 28 cases in the control group.There were no statistical differences in demographic data,baseline depression scores,positive coping style scores,negative coping style scores,and self-efficacy scores between the two groups(P > 0.05).(2)The effect of modified problem-solving therapy on the elderly in nursing homes.The results of the repeated measures ANOVA showed that:1)Depression: the effect of time on depression in older adults was significant(P<0.001)and the interaction between group and time was statistically significant(P<0.001),and the results of the comparison between groups showed that at the end of the intervention and 3 months after the intervention,the depression scores of the intervention group were lower than those of the control group,and statistically significant(P<0.05).2)Positive coping style: the differences between the negative coping method scores of older adults in the intervention and control groups were statistically significant(P<0.05),the effect of time on positive coping style of older adults was significant(P<0.001),and the interaction between group and time was statistically significant(P<0.001);the positive coping ability scores of the intervention group were higher than those of the control group at the end of the intervention(P<0.05),while at 3 months after the end of the intervention,the positive coping ability of the two groups The differences were not statistically significant(P>0.05).3)negative coping methods: the difference between the negative coping method scores of older adults in the intervention and control groups were statistically significant(P<0.05),the effect of time on negative coping methods was significant(P<0.001),and the interaction term between group and time was statistically significant(P<0.001);By comparing between groups,the negative coping scores of the intervention group at the end of the intervention and 3 months after the intervention were lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).4)Self-efficacy: The effect of time on selfefficacy in older adults was significant(P<0.001),and the interaction between group and time was statistically significant(P<0.001);according to the results of the comparison between groups,the self-efficacy scores of the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group at the end of the intervention and 3 months after the end of the intervention(P<0.05).Conclusion:Modified problem-solving therapy is beneficial in reducing depressive symptoms and enhancing positive coping and self-efficacy levels in older adults in nursing homes. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Modified problem-solving therapy, nursing home, the elderly, depression, coping style, self-efficacy | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
