Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of mirror therapy(MT)combined with acupoint massage on the upper limb motor dysfunction after stroke through clinical randomized controlled trial,in order to provide a new treatment thoughts and practical evidence of integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine for the rehabilitation after stroke. Methods: A total of 66 patients who met the inclusion criteria were selected as the research objects. They were divided into MT group(group A),acupoint massage group(group B)and combined group(group C)by random number table method, with 22 patients in each group. All 3 groups were given conventional rehabilitation therapy. In addition, group A were provided with MT,group B were provided with acupoint massage, while group C were received both MT and acupoint massage. Each treatment was performed once a day,5 days a week, lasted for 4 weeks.Fugl-Meyer assessment-upper extremity(FMA-UE),simple test for evaluating hand function(STEF)and modified Barthel index(MBI)were used for evaluate before and after treatment. Finally, the evaluation results were counted, compared and analyzed. Results: During the treatment,3 patients failed to complete the study, including 1 case in group A and 2 cases in group C.Finally,63 patients with stroke were included. Before treatment: There were no statistically significant differences in basic data and FMA-UE,STEF and MBI scores among the 3 groups(P>0.05),baseline data were comparable. After 4 weeks of treatment: The scores of FMA-UE,STEF and MBI in 3 groups were significantly improved compared with those before treatment(P<0.01).The scores of FMAUE,STEF and MBI in group C were higher than those in group A and group B,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Compared group A with group B,FMA-UE,STEF and MBI scores were improved, but the differences did not prove a statistical significance(P>0.05).Conclusion: MT combined with acupoint massage has a significant effect on improving upper limb motor function and the activities of daily living of patients with stroke. There is a synergistic effect between the two therapies, and the combined effect is better than that of single therapy.
