Health is the foundation of life.Rapid urbanisation has led to the destruction of natural ecosystems and has had an impact on people’s health and quality of life, with issues such as sub-health,urban diseases and an ageing population needing to be addressed. With the support and promotion of the "Health China" strategy and the"Opinions on Promoting the Development of Forest Recreation Industry" and other related policies, the market for forest recreation in China is expanding.Forest recreation based on forest resources can give full play to the role of forests in preventing diseases, relieving stress and improving the physiological and psychological health of the human body, and has gradually become an intrinsic need for people to pursue a healthy life, creating a huge potential market for forest recreation in China.Forest recreation is an important product form of forest tourism and a health behaviour.Explaining and predicting the attitudes and behavioural intentions of potential forest recreationists can help to develop forest recreation products that meet the needs of potential forest recreationists and promote their conversion into forest recreationists, thus enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of the forest recreation industry.Based on the Health Belief Model and the Theory of Planned Behaviour,we constructed the Forest Recreation Behavioural Intention Scale and the Structural Equation Model of Forest Recreation Behavioural Intention to explore the influence of health beliefs and other factors on the behavioural intention of potential forest recreationists, and also tested the mediating role of forest recreation attitudes. The study mainly adopts a snowball sampling method by distributing online questionnaires in the form of "WeChat","Weibo","Xiaohongshu" and "Ctrip","SPSSAU was used to conduct reliability tests, descriptive statistical analysis, exploratory factor analysis, validation factor analysis, structural equation modeling and mediation tests on the research hypotheses to obtain a model of forest recreation behavioural intention. The main results are as follows:The results of the study show that:(1)Most people do not have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of forest recreation, and respondents prefer low-cost,short self-guided group tours to experience forest recreation.70.58%of the survey respondents still have a general and not very good understanding of forest recreation, indicating a lack of publicity for forest recreation.(2)The attitudes of potential forest recreationists were significantly and positively influenced by perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, health consciousness, and subjective norms;perceived severity, perceived barriers, and perceived behavioural control did not have a significant effect on their attitudes. The variables that were significantly influenced were,in descending order of influence:perceived benefits, health awareness, perceived susceptibility, and subjective norms.(3)The behavioural intentions of potential forest recreationists were influenced by forest recreation attitudes, perceived benefits, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control, while perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived barriers, and health consciousness did not have a significant effect on their behavioural intentions. The variables that had significant effects were,in descending order of influence:forest recreation attitude, perceived benefits, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control.(4)The mediating effect of forest recreation attitudes on the pathways of perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, health awareness, and subjective norms on behavioural intentions towards forest recreation was significant.Potential forest recreationists’ attitudes partially mediated the influence paths of perceived benefits and subjective norms on their forest recreation tourism behavioural intentions;and fully mediated the influence paths of perceived susceptibility and health awareness on their forest recreation tourism behavioural intentions.
