Study On Export Trade Competitiveness And Influencing Factors Of Timber And Processed Products In Laos

Laos is rich in forest resources.Since the founding of the People’s Republic,the export industry of wood and its processed products,as the main economic pillar,has played an important role in the development of Laos’ export trade.However,as the Lao society gradually attaches importance to the protection of natural resources,in recent years,domestic forest protection policies,non-tariff trade barriers to international import and export,and industrial transformation policies of Laos have had a certain impact on the timber export trade.At the same time,the implementation of China’s Belt and Road Initiative has brought good opportunities for the development of Laos’ timber and processing products industry.This study studies the current situation of Laos’ timber and processed products export trade and its competitiveness,which has certain practical significance for promoting the sustainable development of Laos’ timber and processed products industry and improving its export competitiveness.Based on the theory of comparative advantage and the theory of competitive advantage,this paper firstly analyzes the forest resources situation of Laos and the development status of its wood and processed products industry.On this basis,it specifically analyzes the export trade status of Laos’ wood and processed products industry from the aspects of export scale and export flow.To find out the main problems existing in the development of timber and processed products industry and export trade in Laos.Secondly,from the international market share,export trade competitiveness index,the specific calculation and analysis of Laos wood and processed products export competitiveness.The results show that since 2012,the share of Laos wood and its processed products in the international market has been increasing year by year,and its export competitiveness index has also been increasing year by year.Based on the actual investigation,the specific influencing factors of Laos timber and its processed products export trade are summarized,and the AHP method is applied to quantitatively analyze the specific influencing degree of each influencing factor on Laos timber and its processed products export trade.Finally,based on the above research,the paper puts forward the relevant countermeasures to promote the development and competitiveness of the timber and processed products industry in Laos from the three aspects of policy,economy and infrastructure.
