With the rapid development of the global economy, climate warming and ecological pollution problems have also intensified, and how to achieve a low-carbon development model has become sought by various countries.Statistics from London Petrochemicals Limited(BP)show that China’s carbon emissions of9.825 billion tonnes in 2019,accounting for about 29%of global carbon emissions, ranked first in the world. As a result,China has also solemnly announced that it will peak CO2emissions around 2030 and reduce carbon emissions per unit of GDP by approximately 60 per cent compared to 2005.Achieving this goal will require a concerted effort from all sectors to reduce carbon emissions to varying degrees.Early research on carbon emissions focused on industry and energy consumption, but studies have shown that agricultural activities account for 17%of total greenhouse gas emissions, which is enough to draw attention to the urgent task of reducing carbon emissions from agriculture. As one of the major grain-producing regions, the carbon emissions contributed by agricultural production activities in Hubei Province cannot be ignored. In this paper, the carbon emissions from the use of pesticides, fertilizers, agricultural films and diesel fuel,as well as the carbon emissions from land tilling and agricultural irrigation are calculated according to the calculation method provided by the IPCC,using the period from 2005 to 2020 as the time series dataBased on the research results, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)Agricultural carbon emissions in Hubei Province show a trend of increasing before decreasing, indicating that Hubei Province has made some progress in low-carbon agriculture. However, the annual average carbon emissions from 2005 to 2020reached 422.7×104t,of which 286.8×104t was caused by chemical fertilizers, accounting for 68%of the total annual average carbon emissions from 2005 to 2020,indicating that the reduction of carbon emissions from agriculture in Hubei Province can first be addressed from the use of chemical fertilizers.(2)Using the KAYA constant equation to decompose the factors affecting the agricultural carbon emissions in Hubei Province,it can be found that the carbon emissions caused by economic development factors are as high as 117.17×104t,indicating that Hubei Province chose a rough development model in the early days, ignoring the environmental impact caused by the input of agricultural materials in order to boost the agricultural economy.(3)The labour force factor, the production efficiency factor and the structure factor of agricultural production have contributed to carbon emission reduction, with these three contributing 225.2×104t of carbon emission reduction in total,of which the structure factor contributes the most, followed by the efficiency factor and finally the labour force factor, but the labour force factor only contributes 24.05×104t of carbon emission reduction,so the structure of agricultural personnel still needs to be optimizedBased on the analysis of the current situation of agricultural development in Hubei Province, the measurement of total agricultural carbon emissions in Hubei Province and the analysis of relevant influencing factors, this paper puts forward corresponding emission reduction suggestions, mainly the following five points:first, help farmers establish low-carbon awareness and change the mode of agricultural development;second, increase low-carbon investment and policy support, and give full play to the government’s guiding role;third, optimize the agricultural industrial structure and make full use of geographical advantages;fourth enhance the level of agricultural technology, strengthen scientific and technological innovation and promotion;fifth, actively develop the agricultural carbon market to enhance the momentum of emission reduction. It is hoped that the above suggestions can help reduce agricultural carbon emissions in Hubei Province and ensure the healthy and sustainable development of agriculture in Hubei Province. |
