Alpha-ketoglutaric acid(AKG)as a key metabolite in the tricarboxylic acid cycle,is a precursor of amino acids such as glutamine and glutamic acid.In mammals,previous studies have shown that AKG plays an important role in growth and energy homeostasis.However,there are less reports on poultry production.To investigate the effects of AKG on growth performance,laughter performance and blood biochemica l parameters of yellow feather broilers.30 days healthy yellow feather broilers were randomly allotted into three groups(n=10)and rece ived water(control group)or wa ter supple mente d with 0.05%,0.2%AKG treatment group for 30 days.Daily feed intakes and health status were recorded during the experiment.Next,weighing,blood collection and slaughtering were taken.The effects of AKG on the growth performance,shelf weight and abdominal fat deposition of broilers were discussed by growth performance and slaughter performance indicators.At the same time,the biochemica l indicators in serum and the expression of m RNA associated with the synthesis,transport and decomposition of fatty acids in the liver were explored.The results showed that0.05% AKG had no effect on average daily feed intake,average daily water consumption,average daily gain and feed to gain ratio(P>0.05),but significantly decreased liver index,Triglyceride(TG)and abundance of acetyl-Co A carboxylase(ACC)and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)m RNA expression in liver(P<0.05).In addition,0.05% AKG reduced the malondia ldehyde(MDA)and TG and increased glucose and high density lipoprote in(HDL) level in serum(P<0.05).0.05% AKG also significantly reduce the drip loss of breast muscles and thigh muscles of yellow feather broilers(P <0.05).These results revealed that the addition of AKG via drinking water can reduce the anabolism of lipids and level of inflammation in liver,improve the body’s antioxidant capacity.Neither the shear force,nor the p H values at 45min and 2 h postmortem were affected.The values of L~* and b~* in breast muscles and the values of a~*,b~* and L~* in thigh muscles were not significantly different among groups,but the a~* value of the breast muscle in 0.05% AKG treatment group was significantly higher than that in control group.which showed that AKG may improve the meat quality of animal body.This study provides an important reference for the development of novel feed additives to regulate the lipid metabolism of poultry,prevent and treat fatty liver.
