| In the economic system of the Minjiang River Basin in the Qing Dynasty,the forestry economy was one of the important components.Since the Ming Dynasty,because of market development and population growth,the Minjiang River Basin reached its peak,and it formed a highly specialized and commercialized forestry economy during the Qing Dynasty.Due to limited data,most of the previous studies focused on the macro-exposition of the forestry economy in the Minjiang River Basin,and seldom study the influence of the market economy on the mountain society.This article takes the Yang’s family of Zishan in Yongtai County as a case study,through an in-depth analysis of the existing contract documents,and discusses the management mode of the forestry economy and its historical influence.In Zishan Village of Yongtai County,the development of the commodity economy in the Ming and Qing Dynasties was mainly manifested in the commercialization of mountain forest resources.Since the end of Ming Dynasty,the livelihood mode of the Zishan Yang’s family was mainly based on the forestry management,and its livelihood mode and survival strategy had been deeply influenced by the market economy.Among the existing historical documents of the Yang’s family of Zishan,most are mountain forest contracts since the Ming and Qing dynasties,which provide valuable first-hand information for studying the history of the mountain forest management and cultural construction in this area.In the Qing Dynasty,the forestry economy of the Zishan Yang family was mainly focused on tree-planting and forest product processing,and its management mode was based on family management.Yang’s family’s organizations controlled mountain forest resources through taxation,litigation,transactions,etc.,and accumulated huge amounts of wealth by transferring usufruct through leases,pawns,etc.On this basis,it actively carried out family building,participated extensively in local public affairs,integrated folk beliefs,invested in imperial examination education,married prominent families,and contributed to social and cultural transformations.Since the Qing Dynasty,there was an inherent interrelations between the forestry management and cultural construction of the Zishan Yang family.Mountain forest management is the economic foundation of cultural construction,and cultural construction promotes the development of mountain forest management.Under the historical conditions of the increasing development of the commodity economy in mountainous areas and the deepening of the contradiction between man and land,the Zishan Yang family established the advantage of family management with the help of family construction and cultural construction,and strengthened the control of mountain forest resources. |
