| As a relatively independent cultural and geographic unit in Fujian Province,the Putian area has formed a "Putian style" of vernacular settlements and dwellings.The mountain settlements in the Putian area have undergone many stages of social change and morphological evolution,especially under the impact of modernization and industrialization,and have now formed a complex state with a mixture of architectural forms,and their unique appearance is gradually blurred in the context of globalization.In this study,we analyze the spatial hierarchy,composition and evolution of settlements based on the modern vernacular perspective on the spatial form of settlements and the perception of influencing factors of mountain settlements in the Puxian area: the composition of geological veins,humanistic imagery and construction patterns.The study is carried out at two levels: the overall distribution and external form of the settlements,the structure of roads and alleys,and the architectural form,and the dynamic evolution of the vernacular in four aspects: the cultural precedent of the vernacular,the transformation of the humanistic imagery,the adaptation of the earth’s veins,and the creativity of individuals,with the characteristics of the Putian area and culture.In the face of the problems of environmental destruction,decay of humanistic imagery and differentiation of construction patterns in contemporary Putian mountain settlements,the scale and systematization of contemporary construction are combined with the laws of vernacular evolution to form three practical paths of responding to the traditional landscape,passing on the knowledge of vernacular and shaping the spirit of place.Applying it to the spatial construction of mountain settlements,the study explores three aspects: settlement overall planning that integrates geography and humanities,spatial renewal of settlements that inherits landscape and spirit,and residential design that adapts to people and construction patterns.The research finally results in a strategy of settlement construction based on the heritage of Putian characteristics in the contemporary context,and an example of the design of Jichuan village’s local settlement. |
