From 2022 onwards,China enters a period of slow population growth and an increasing proportion of elderly people.Against the backdrop of the rapid development of the Internet era,China is actively addressing the issue of an ageing population and promoting the development of smart healthcare and elderly care industries.By integrating information technology with the elderly product industry,a comprehensive elderly product industry system is gradually being built to meet the diverse and multi-level needs of the elderly.With the perspective of active ageing,this study explores strategies for the design of smart elderly products,with the aim of providing a better elderly living experience.Firstly,by comparing the current research status of active ageing and smart ageing theories at home and abroad,the characteristics of smart ageing product cases are analysed and compared.The literature review shows that the active ageing theory is expected to address the needs of elderly users.Next,strategies and methods for the design of smart ageing products are highlighted.Combined with relevant application cases,important design points related to ageing needs are extracted and further analysed for their value in the field of smart ageing products.A user survey identifies the target user groups,understands the needs and expectations of the elderly for smart ageing products,and provides a design methodology for smart ageing products through on-site observations and user interviews.Finally,based on the proposed design methodology,a series of design practices for smart ageing products were carried out through sensory interaction.From the perspectives of tactile interaction,visual memory and olfactory emotion,the aim is to awaken the seniors’ sensory experiences and help them find the right way to use them through familiar things and interactions,thus achieving positive guidance.Currently,smart ageing products are receiving significant support and promotion in national policy.However,we need to be concerned that despite the boom in smart ageing products,there is still a tendency for their design thinking to be too technical and monolithic,requiring an understanding of and attention to the real needs of older people,and we need to ensure a balance between technology and humanity,as well as synergy between product and ecology.Only through a comprehensive consideration of all aspects of needs and factors,and a genuine focus on the health,happiness and love of the elderly in their old age,can we truly achieve the sustainable development of the smart ageing industry and the overall well-being of the elderly.
