| Urban public space includes an important component known as urban slow traffic space. However, due to the rapid expansion and various degrees of segmentation in urban gray infrastructure, the interruption or intermittency of slow traffic space has become commonplace on urban roads. This trend towards gray infrastructure development has resulted in certain road sections being designated solely as auxiliary slow traffic systems, lacking independent fields as slow traffic spaces.Given this realistic situation,it is crucial to acknowledge and explore the value and potential of urban slow traffic space’s development and optimization within urban green space and the urban ecosystem. The micro-scale connection and transition of slow traffic space across different functional areas of the city need to be examined to ensure safety, ecological sustainability, artistic expression, and smooth flow.To study the evaluation indicators and optimization strategies of urban slow traffic space, this paper adopts a landscape urbanism perspective and selects Gaoxin Road in Xi’an City as the research area.By summarizing the optimization evaluation indicators from landscape urbanism and slow traffic space,as well as conducting a basic investigation of the study area and understanding the demands of urban residents for slow traffic space, the paper utilizes Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)and group decision-making methods.Expert consultations were conducted with five industry experts and scholars to gather their opinions and refine the initial set of 34 indicator factors. The judgment matrix provided by the experts was tested and adjusted using MATLAB software, leading to the calculation of weight values for each indicator within the overall evaluation indicator system. The final evaluation indicator system for optimizing urban slow traffic space was established, consisting of one target layer, five criteria layers, and 26 indicator factors. The weight distribution of these indicators is as follows:ecological environment criterion layer(weight value: 0.42742,assigned value:approximately 42%),facility function criterion layer(weight value: 0.27854,assigned value:approximately 28%),spatial fusion criterion layer(weight value: 0.11782,assigned value:approximately 12%),dynamic process criterion layer(weight value: 0.04754,assigned value:approximately 5%),and humanistic spirit criterion layer(weight value: 0.12866,assigned value: approximately 13%).Thus,the order of importance for the criterion layers is as follows:ecological environment > facility function > humanistic spirit > spatial integration > dynamic process.Subsequently, specific indicator scores were obtained through network data analysis, interview questionnaire surveys, and on-site evaluation and measurement of the slow traffic space on Gaoxin Road in Xi’an.The comprehensive score for the slow traffic space on Gaoxin Road was 66.67 points.Based on the lower evaluation scores and actual research results, the existing problems in the research area were identified. Finally, targeted spatial optimization strategies were proposed in five aspects:establishing a sustainable landscape foundation, enhancing the functionality of green infrastructure, promoting spatial integration of landscape elements, emphasizing the process of spatiotemporal dynamic development, and highlighting the injection of regional cultural spirit. |
