At present,China’s urbanisation process is being pushed extremely hard and the land carrying capacity is constantly overloaded,with a series of social problems ensuing.The abandoned and under-utilised surplus space in the city has become the primary target for landscape renewal and renovation.Among them,the emergence of viaducts has effectively alleviated the problem of urban traffic congestion,but the over-zealous pursuit of urbanisation has led to a serious waste and under-utilisation of space underneath the bridges,bringing many negative impacts to the city.Against this backdrop,this thesis starts from the negative effects caused by the remaining space under the city’s viaducts,takes the nine viaducts in the centre of Shijiazhuang as the research object,conducts a detailed practical investigation on the construction structure,surrounding environmental conditions,functional distribution characteristics,site colour composition and landscape status of the space under the viaducts,and combines domestic and international cases of optimising the design of the remaining space under the viaducts with field research data.The design strategy of the remaining space under the viaducts in Shijiazhuang is proposed,and the relevant landscape optimisation scheme is designed for selected sections of the site according to the current situation.The whole thesis is divided into six chapters.The first part introduces the background of this thesis,the purpose and significance of the research,analyzes the current situation,content and methods of domestic and foreign research,and establishes the general research framework;the second part systematically discusses the concepts and spatial classification criteria of the remaining space under the viaduct,explains the relevant theories involved in the research,and at the same time combines the classic cases at home and abroad for analysis;the third part takes the current situation of the remaining space Based on the above theoretical basis and field research,the fourth part puts forward the principles and strategies for constructing an optimised landscape design for viaducts;the fifth part carries out the design of the selected sections under viaducts according to the design principles and optimisation strategies in order to clarify the specificity of the article’s views and transformation ideas.The last part is the conclusion and outlook,which is a summary of the whole thesis and an outlook for future research in this field,as well as a self-examination of the shortcomings of the research.By optimising the landscape of the remaining space under the viaduct in Shijiazhuang,the landscape features and overall environmental appearance of the public space can be improved,the carrying capacity of the space reduced,the landscape greenery and leisure space increased,and an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable activity place provided for the residents concerned,as well as providing a direction for future related research.
