"Undefined Space" In City——Research Of Viaduct Bottom Space Transformation And Utilization

With the intensification of urbanization process and the development of traffic infrastructure, the viaducts’influence on the city and people’s life is beyond the category of traffic function. They occupy a large amount of urban space, destroy the city texture and put negative influence on the surrounding environment. Due to the lack of reasonable planning and effective management, the viaducts’bottom space is increasing many urban problems. In the face of this situation, how to transform the viaducts and their bottom space in order to improve their utilization rate of space resources, and how to make up for the destruction of the bridge to urban space and reflect the city history and context in order to make people get a better living environment and bring new life to city blocks, is the key research topic of this article.Starting from the criticism of the current city to the viaducts, the origin of urban three-dimensional transportation and the motivation of the viaducts’development, this article analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the viaducts in urban development. For the research object-the characteristics of urban viaducts’bottom space, this article analyze the multiple meanings, the formation reasons, the basic features and the using status of the viaducts’ bottom space. On this basis, through the arrangement of related cases and theoretical data, this article puts forward that the transformation methods can be divided into three ways-"split","borrow", and "change" according to different cities’ development stages and the viaducts’specific environment. In view of Chinese national conditions, this article points out the key of Chinese urban viaducts ’transformation is the use of the viaducts’bottom space. Then by the research of the space’s design factors and transformation limiting factors, this article puts forward the specific strategies and the using principles of paying attention to the city association, emphasizing on regional characteristics, focusing on human needs and developing green concept from the function injection, space organization, artistic conception construction, etc. Finally, we select the actual case to design, put the research of transformation strategies into practice, and hope to provide some meaningful reference for the future research of the viaducts’development and their bottom space’s transformation.
