| Modern cities have undergone rapid changes due to urbanization and modernization, often leading to the disappearance of unique local culture. This can be seen in the fading of distinctive native lifestyles, collective memories, and the warmth of neighborhoods. To preserve the city’s spirit, the urban renewal of old districts is crucial. The introduction of public art has emerged as a key element in the process of transforming old neighborhoods. This paper examines the role that public art plays in protecting the cultural memory of urban areas through analysis of relevant case studies and an investigation into the characteristics of old districts in Wuhan.Public art is also explored for its ability to create tangible relationships between urban residents and the city’s unique heritage. It is suggested that this relationship should be preserved, both through the integration of public art into urban renewal plans and through the development of aestheticized forms of intervention. The results drawn from this study indicate that public art is an important tool in preserving the culture of the city. |
