Research On The Impact Of Digital Economy On The Export Competitiveness Of Equipment Manufacturing Industry

As the core of China’s industry,the development of equipment manufacturing industry is the embodiment of China’s industrial competitiveness.In the context of economic globalization,China’s equipment manufacturing industry is facing the dual challenges of "high-end blockade in developed countries" and "low-end diversion in developing countries".On the one hand,developed countries try to impose a technological blockade on China,locking China’s equipment manufacturing industry in the middle and low end of the global value chain.On the other hand,compared with developing countries,China’s labor costs have risen,and the cost advantage has gradually weakened.At present,the export competitiveness of China’s equipment manufacturing industry is low overall,and it is urgent to tap the source of growth power to stimulate export competitiveness.The rapid development of the digital economy has provided strong momentum for China’s economic development,and has also become a booster for the industrial development of various countries.To enhance the export competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry,China should seize the major opportunity of the development of the digital economy and actively promote the digital transformation and upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry.Based on this,studying the impact of digital economy on the export competitiveness of China’s equipment manufacturing industry is of great significance to enhance the export competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry.This paper first defines the relevant concepts of digital economy and equipment manufacturing industry,and sorts out and summarizes the existing literature.Secondly,the development level of digital economy and the export competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry are measured and analyzed.A comprehensive evaluation index system was constructed from the three dimensions of digital infrastructure,digital industrialization and industrial digitalization,and the entropy method was used to measure the development level of digital economy in 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2020(excluding Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan,and Tibet was not included in the scope of this study due to the lack of data).Measure and analyze the export competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry in various regions from the aspects of international market share and trade competitive advantage.Then,on this basis,the provincial panel data from 2011 to2020 is used to establish a quantitative model for empirical analysis to verify the impact of the digital economy on the export competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry.In addition,regression is carried out for different regions and different industry segments.Finally,the mediating role of technological innovation in the digital economy on the export competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry is explored.The study finds that:(1)The level of digital economy development and the export competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry in the eastern coastal areas are higher than those in the inland areas.(2)The digital economy can significantly improve the export competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry,and this result is still true after replacing variables and controlling endogeneity.(3)The impact of the digital economy on the export competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry is heterogeneous.The impact of the digital economy on the export competitiveness of equipment manufacturing industry in inland areas is stronger than that in coastal areas.There are differences in the impact of the digital economy on the export competitiveness of various segments of the equipment manufacturing industry.(4)The digital economy can improve the export competitiveness of the equipment manufacturing industry by improving the level of technological innovation.Based on the above research conclusions,relevant countermeasures and suggestions are proposed.
