Research On The Protection And Renewal Design Of Nantong Temple Street Historic Blocks

Nantong is a national historical and cultural city,which has been established for more than a thousand years since the third year of Xiande in the Later Zhou of the Fifth Dynasty.However,there are still limitations in the theoretical research and practical activities related to the conservation and renewal of historic districts in Nantong.This paper summarizes the theoretical and practical activities of the historic district at home and abroad,and concludes a conservation and renewal strategy for the historic district with the local characteristics of Nantong,so as to provide a basic theory and methodological strategy for the conservation and renewal of the historic district of Temple Street in Nantong,and explore the balance point between the historic district and the modern development of the city.During this period,many realistic problems have arisen.Based on the above status and problems,four main research parts of this paper are formed:In the first part,the background and origin,purpose and significance of the study of historic districts are explained.The concepts of conservation and renewal of historic districts are defined and classified.Through the study of the excellent historic district renovation strategies and schemes at home and abroad,a reliable historic district renewal strategy and conservation scheme is summarized from them.In the second part,field research and analysis are conducted on the historic district of Nantong Temple Street,the research object of this paper.The current situation is investigated and studied,including its geographical location,historical development,relevant historical district conservation planning and related policies,as well as the historical resources within the Temple Street.In the subsequent analysis of the street traffic,landscape and greenery,existing buildings,and infrastructure of Nantong Temple Street,five existing problems were found: closed living network,lack of cultural heritage,single building function,poor landscape environment,and decay of temple street business.This study provides a basis for the establishment of a conservation and renewal system for Nantong Temple Street.The third part,which is one of the focuses of this study,is a systematic planning analysis of the conservation and regeneration strategy of Nantong Temple Street from five aspects.Firstly,the improvement of the living network of Temple Street,including the sorting of street traffic,the improvement of public service facilities and the renovation of the appearance along the street.Second,the transformation of the landscape system of Temple Street,the ecological greening and plant community enhancement.Third,the transformation of the historical line of Temple Street,the integration of the historical elements of Temple Street,extracting the memory points from them,linking the cultural line and thus creating a cultural axis.Fourth,the transformation of the temple street area space,including the replacement of building functions,the reshaping of the alleyway space,and the creation of flexible space.Fifth,the transformation of the industrial vitality of Temple Street,including the upgrading of industrial structure,the placement of new industries and the construction of online platforms.The strategy of preservation and renovation is from overall to local,from offline to online.Eventually,the conservation and renewal of Nantong Temple Street will be realized.In the fourth part,based on the above research,this part carries out the planning of the design practice program.It takes the market culture,architectural culture,historical culture and folklore culture as the entry point.Combined with the streets and alleys of Nantong Temple Street,a basic pattern of one main axis and three axes is formed.Master planning for Temple Street,traffic combing,and creating a slow walking network.Public services are perfected to shape a healthy habitat.Seeing the green,improve the landscape layout.Integrating the past and the present,linking the cultural system.Building renewal to create a vibrant space.Special design has been carried out to shape 7 important nodes,using the design techniques of renovation and new construction to form the new eight scenes of Nantong Temple Street with the old landscape.A more detailed presentation of the entire program will update Nantong Temple Street into a vibrant neighborhood for living,tourism,business and commerce.
