One third of China’s land area is mountainous, and as an important type of mountainous architecture, there is a lack of attention to external space design and spatial cognitive experience in the construction process, which leads to the blurring of spatial characteristics of space and the lack of emotional experience for people.By combining spatial cognitive theory with design practice,we can analyze and predict human cognitive behavior from human cognitive demand and its characteristics, and then design a space that meets human psychological demand. This study takes Shiqian style commercial street as an example, from the theoretical perspective of "spatial cognition",from the "spatial environment cognition" led by mountain environment,"spatial object cognition" led by human activity, and "cultural atmosphere" led by culture."spatial environment cognition" led by mountain environment,"spatial object cognition" led by human activity,"spatial feature cognition" led by cultural atmosphere, translate spatial cognition into spatial design language, propose specific spatial design strategies in terms of spatial layout, spatial form, terrain treatment, spatial sequence, spatial scale, spatial openness, spatial interface, surface components, landscape and facilities, etc. It tries to build a set of systematic design ideas and methods for the exterior space of mountain commercial pedestrian street, contributes to the development of spatial cognition theory itself and the application of spatial cognition in practice, and combines theoretical research with design practice,in order to have a good reference for the design of the exterior space of mountain commercial pedestrian street.
