Currently, there is not enough research on the kitchen as a centre of family life for the visually impaired, and the kitchen products available in the market do not meet the basic needs of the visually impaired in independent cooking. Objective: To study the needs of the visually impaired in kitchen activities and the applicable kitchen products and services,so as to help them improve their independent living and further participate in social life on an equal footing.Method: Through literature reading and data collection, the characteristics of the physiological,cognitive-psychological,emotional characteristics and living habits of the visually impaired were analysed, and on the basis of research on context theory and context analysis methods,a context analysis idea was proposed for this topic,macro-definition design issues-specific analysis of context-mapping design opportunities.Based on questionnaire research, field observations and data collection on the current situation of kitchen use by the visually impaired and existing products in the market, representative user roles were identified, the flow of kitchen activities for the visually impaired was sorted out,the main pain points of the cooking process were identified and the design concept was defined in a macro level.Contextual analysis was used to analyse the situation in the visually impaired kitchen, including the user, time, environment and task context. The complete design requirements were systematically summarised and analysed, and the KANO model was used to classify the hierarchy of requirements and to propose strategies for kitchen product design in each context. Results: Based on the above research,a "listening + touch" product design idea was proposed, and the hardware design and voice user interface design of the smart induction cooker and cooking voice assistant for the visually impaired were developed, resulting in a kitchen product system for independent cooking for the visually impaired. Conclusion: The study explored the user needs of kitchen activities for the visually impaired from the perspective of contextual analysis, and proposed strategies for kitchen product design in each context. The feasibility of the research and design methodology is also verified using specific kitchen products as a practical vehicle, providing a reference for research and product development on related topics.
