According to data released by the National Development and Reform Commission in December 2021,China has the largest number of elderly people in the world today,breaking through 400 million around 2035 and entering a stage of heavy ageing.As China continues to build a positively ageing society,the needs of the ageing population are increasing,requiring products that not only meet their specific functional needs,but also their perceptual needs are becoming more and more important.The theory of kansei engineering is an important guide to designing products that meet the perceptual needs of users.The article discusses the practical and perceptual requirements for the design of ageing-friendly wheelchairs through the analysis of the characteristics of the ageing population,market research,user interviews,human-machine dimensional design research and product semantics on ageing-friendly wheelchairs.A more in-depth study was conducted on the perceptual needs using the kansei engineering differential method: after establishing the perceptual intention space,the Likert scale questionnaire was used to collect the subjects’ evaluations of the perceptual needs,and the data were processed using factor analysis and other methods to obtain the evaluation of the importance of the perceptual needs;based on the subjects’ evaluations of the wheelchair samples under the perceptual needs,quantitative analysis was used to obtain the imagery elements of The findings were based on the subjects’ evaluations of the perceptual needs of the wheelchair sample.In addition,TRIZ theory was introduced to discuss the resolution of conflicts between the technical features of the analysed requirements.Based on the above research,the practical and perceptual needs of ageing wheelchairs and their optimisation methods were summarised,a design strategy for ageing wheelchairs was obtained,and the design practice of ageing wheelchairs was carried out based on the research results,and the effectiveness of the design optimisation strategies for ageing wheelchairs based on the kansei engineering design method was verified through the evaluation of the design solutions,providing design suggestions and new design ideas for the design of ageing wheelchairs.
