| The cognitive impairment of the elderly has gradually received widespread attention due to an increasingly aging population. In the field of spatial design in China, the research on the spatial and environmental design suitable for the elderly with cognitive impairment remains at an early stage.Coping with the huge future demand for care institutions for the elderly with cognitive impairment, there are insufficient care institutions that can provide professional services. The research status of care institution spatial design for the elderly with cognitive impairment was analyzed based on the PCC concept. The main characteristics of the elderly with cognitive impairment and their need for the spatial and environmental design of care institutions were clarified by the mean of investigation. After incorporating the basic philosophy of the PCC concept, the principles for the spatial and environmental design of care institutions for the elderly with cognitive impairment were proposed, including safety, privacy, continuity, identifiability, spatial diversification, and appropriate stimulation,in order to delay the progression of the elderly with cognitive impairment, improve the operational efficiency of the space, and relieve the working density of nursing personnel.By applying these theories and verifying them in design practice,it is hoped that the elderly with cognitive disorders in the institutions can be satisfied to the greatest extent in terms of physiological, psychological and behavioral aspects, and can provide reference and reference for future spatial design of institutions for the elderly with cognitive disorders. |
