| West Lake in Hangzhou has abundant natural resources and a deep cultural heritage, making it an ideal place for leisure and recreation for both tourists and residents. This paper takes the parks, surrounding West Lake,as the research object and explores the spatial structure characteristics of the parks, the characteristics of tourist recreation behavior, and the relationship between the two, through field research and the theoretical frameworks of Space syntax and Environment-behavior Studies. In order to provide references for the development of the scenic area and the management of recreational activities. The research findings are as follows:(1)The organization of the path space in the parks has a significant impact on the hierarchy and recognizability of the space.Based on the theory of Space syntax, the spatial structure of the parks was quantitatively analyzed from four dimensions: spatial accessibility, hierarchy, recognizability, and attractiveness. The results showed that, overall, the spatial hierarchy in the parks was as follows: QuyuanFenghe(14.904)> Taiziwan Park(14.812)> Huagang-Guanyu(11.927)> Changqiao Park(9.351)>Liulang-Wenying(8.368)> Hubin Park(5.000);the level of recognizability was as follows: LiulangWenying(0.473)> Taiziwan Park(0.327)> Hubin Park(0.311)> Changqiao Park(0.186)> HuagangGuanyu(0.184)> Quyuan-Fenghe(0.103).Locally,the spatial structure characteristics of activity plazatype scenic spots showed high local accessibility(1.857)and high attractiveness(0.900);waterfront landscape type scenic spots showed low local accessibility(1.437)and high attractiveness(0.851);plant landscape type scenic spots showed low local accessibility(1.346)and low attractiveness(0.743).(2)The characteristics of tourist recreation behavior in the parks can be classified into four types: high density-low diversity, low density-low diversity, high density-high diversity, and low density-high diversity, which differ significantly among different scenic spots.Based on Environment-behavior Studies theory and the method of behavioral observation, the characteristics of tourist recreation behavior were quantified using Information entropy and Simpson’s diversity index. The results showed that the spatial and temporal distribution of tourist flow was uneven, with two peaks occurring at 10: 00 and 16: 00,and the density of tourists was higher in waterfront and activity plaza-type scenic spots. There was little difference in the level of diversity of the tourist population between different scenic spots, but the level of behavior diversity differed greatly.Based on the characteristics of tourist recreation behavior, there were 4 high density-low diversity spots,10 low density-low diversity spots,16 high density-high diversity spots, and 8 low density-high diversity spots, among the 38 sample spots.(3)The spatial accessibility and attractiveness of scenic spots in the parks are important factors influencing tourist recreation behavior. The SPSS statistical analysis showed that tourist flow was significantly correlated with local integration and spatial efficiency value, and the level of behavior diversity was significantly negatively correlated with local integration. The high density-low diversity tourist recreation behavior characteristics had a significant preference for spatial structure characteristics. There were significant differences in tourist density between waterfront and plant landscape-type scenic spots. |
