Historic And Stylistic Studies On Traditional Landscape Buildings Of The West Lake, Hangzhou

Hangzhou West Lake landscape is an important sample to study the theory and practice of traditional Chinese garden. landscape building, as the main artificial elements in the West Lake Scenic Area, is of the equal importance and value with the natural landscape. The research of west lake landscape buildings can not only complement and expand the West Lake landscape theory, but also has the important practical significance to inherit and develop the traditional garden art.The paper studies West Lake traditional landscape building from its historical, practical and stylistic aspects, adopting methods mainly including comprehensive utilization of graphic data and field survey, and the results are focused on the following aspects:(1) Basically hackles the historical development of the West Lake Scenic Area landscape building. It not only discusses the building itself, but also its social and natural environment of different periods, giving a certain explanation of the architectural transformation trends. It also sums up the key points in the development of the West Lake landscape building, namely the close linkage with the natural landscape, flexible functions, highly open public attribute, and superb construction skills.(2) This paper takes three of the Ten Views of West Lake as examples, namely Autumn Moon on Calm Lake, Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, Lotus in the Breeze at Crooked Courtyard. By adopting the graphic-text combined approach, collecting and analyzing a large amount of historical documents and image data, it sorts out the change sequence of these scenic spots, adds new findings of the formation of the scenic spots pattern and the changing layout and form of the buildings and summarizes the influencing factors and architectural features of the development of the scenic spots.(3) Based on field measurements, comparative study is made on the existing practice and style of traditional landscape building in the West Lake area, from the aspects of platform, the large wooden frame, wooden decoration, roof, wood carving, color and style. The paper sums up a few practice characteristics, holding that the architectural style tends to be transparent, light, simple but elegant. In the end it takes the following single buildings as examples, including the Pavilion of Imperial Inscription of Autumn Moon on Calm Lake and the Pavilions of Imperial Tablet of Autumn Moon on Calm Lake, of Three Pools Mirroring the Moon and of Lotus in the Breeze at Crooked Courtyard etc., making architectural drawings, using computer software for3D modeling, which will help to provide useful references for the future protection and construction of the West Lake landscape building.
