The office building is one of the most common and representative types of space used in modern social life and work.Modern office building design focuses on the efficiency and composite use of internal functional space, but often lacks attention to its internal rest space places, there is a general lack of space area, space distribution is uneven, the use of the effect of poor and other problems, the current situation of the rest space and the needs of a large direct dislocation,to a certain extent, restrict the quality of the office environment to improve.Through domestic and international literature,it is found that there is no in-depth research on open space in office buildings in Guangzhou,so it is of some research value and practical significance to conduct a study on this topic.Guangzhou is the core economic engine of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign enterprises to build factories and offices here,as well as a large number of local enterprises, economic and production activities are very active,so a variety of types of office buildings such as administrative offices and corporate business offices have taken root and flourished in the local area, among which small and medium-sized office buildings account for the majority, mainly low-rise,small-scale building types. This paper summarises the development status and problems of office buildings in China under the background of the development trend of urbanisation by analysing the design cases of office buildings at home and abroad, and on this basis, through in-depth research on the office environment of relevant enterprises in Guangzhou,we analyse and summarise the characteristics of the open space in Guangzhou office buildings in terms of total volume, functional layout and flow design, and find out the shortcomings and deficiencies of the open space.Combining people’s daily work behaviour with the requirements of open space, the paper takes the problems of open space in office buildings as a guide, studies the characteristics of office workers’ work and leisure behaviour, discovers and summarises their functional needs and spatial characteristics, and deduces the types of space they need and the significance of their existence. At the same time, this paper proposes a number of strategies and principles for the design of internal open spaces in office buildings, and lists specific design approaches for the types of internal open spaces that are compatible with users’ resting behaviour. It is hoped that the theories and methods presented in this paper will provide better ideas and strategies for internal leisure activities in office buildings, adapt to the needs of modern office building development, and provide positive references and experiences for the design and construction of internal open spaces in office buildings in Guangzhou and other parts of China in the future.
