Faced with the challenge of restructuring regional spatial structure during the period of socio-economic transformation, optimizing regional spatial structure has become a key research topic in urban and rural planning, geography, and other disciplines. The reconstruction and optimization of regional spatial structure is not only an objective requirement during the period of social transformation and transformation, but also a requirement of the era for high-quality development of regional spatial layout and land spatial planning system.Since the reform and opening up,and especially since the new century,Shandong Province has seen regions competing for development thanks to its superior natural and human conditions and favourable external environment.Due to the differences in geographical location, resource endowment, historical foundation, transportation conditions and policy support, the spatial structure of different regions in Shandong Province has shown more obvious differences. As Shandong Province is currently in a critical period of transformation and development,it is extremely important to study the characteristics of the evolution of the regional spatial structure of Shandong Province from a polarisation perspective, and to analyse the influencing factors and propose optimisation solutions and development strategies,in order for Shandong Province to fulfil its national mission and build the growth pole of the Yellow River Basin with high quality. This thesis firstly constructs an index system for the level of regional polarization development in Shandong Province, measures the polarization index of 135 districts and counties in three years by using the entropy method, and analyzes the type of polarization development, spatial and temporal patterns, regional differences and spatial association characteristics;secondly, uses the gravitational model and social network analysis to analyze the characteristics of regional spatial networks and spatial structure evolution characteristics;again, uses the grey Finally, based on the comprehensive study and judgment of the centrality and radiation range of cities,a strategy for the optimization and development of regional spatial structure in Shandong Province is proposed. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The regional differences in polarization development levels are narrowing, with the contribution rate of intra-group differences being higher than that of inter-group differences;the polarization development levels show positive spatial correlation, with the "high-high" agglomeration areas concentrated around Jinan and Qingdao municipal districts, and the "low-low" agglomeration areas concentrated around the city of Qingdao. The "low-low" agglomeration area shows a trend of shifting from northwest Lu to southwest Lu and southeast Lu.(2)In terms of individual networks, all district and county centres continue to rise and play a growing role in the spatial network;in terms of cohesive subgroups, the spatial linkages between districts and counties form cohesive subgroups resulting in greater differentiation and change, with inter-group linkages strengthening;in terms of spatial structure evolution, the "point-axis" structure evolves into a multi-centre spatial structure, with the "double core" of Jinan and Qingdao strengthening, and the Jiaoji route becoming the most mature development axis in Shandong Province.(3)All three methods explain the intensity of the influence factors and their directions better, with the level of industrialisation, economic globalisation and transportation conditions playing the most prominent roles, especially the level of industrialisation influencing the shaping of the regional spatial pattern in Shandong, with the higher the level of industrialisation, the higher the level of regional polarisation and the closer the network of urban links.Geographical location and natural endowments still have an important influence on the formation and evolution of regional spatial patterns, and the opportunities for the development of counties along transport routes and around central cities will remain greater than those in peripheral areas. The new characteristics of population growth and demographic changes will be important factors influencing the future regional spatial pattern of Shandong.(4)The central cities of Shandong Province are not high in terms of their first place, and the polycentric pattern is obvious;the scope of radiation of the central cities shows a clear hierarchical structure and spatial differentiation, with Jinan and Qingdao having the widest scope of strong radiation, while the three major economic circles have their own characteristics in terms of weak radiation;the provincial capital economic circles are intertwined and driven by each other, while the Jiaodong economic circle has a relatively small scope of radiation due to its weak location, and the radiation scope of the Lunan economic circle has not yet overlapped.Taking into account the existing spatial pattern of Shandong, the advantages of polycentric development and major infrastructure construction, the regional spatial structure of "two circles, three regions, five poles and five axes" will help Shandong implement major national strategies.
